Malloy Claims Momentum on his Side

Cites Internal Numbers Showing 3% Gap

Dan Malloy, appearing at the annual Italian Festival in Enfield tonight, defended his recent advertisement attacking John DeStefano's statements on women's health care, and claimed that internal numbers show him rapidly gaining ground on his rival.

The Malloy campaign has drawn some notice for its recent television ad depicting John DeStefano's head superimposed on the bodies of several women, while attacking statements he made regarding coverage of mammograms and hospital stays after birth in his universal health care plan. Malloy asserted that DeStefano had, in fact, gone negative first with a campaign flier just after the debate, and said that, in response to attacks, "Either you [go negative] and risk losing, or don't and definitely lose."

"It's a good ad... and [DeStefano] is going to spend the entire week responding to it. ...He went negative first. I'm doing what I have to do, within reason, to win this thing. It is an ad that has captured the imagination."

"I'm gonna win this thing. I don't have any doubt of that, as I stand here, that the momentum is shifting. It began shifting at that debate. ...The reality is that this thing... it's on a course that isn't going to change. You go from 20 points to 10 points to 7 points to 5 points -- our internal numbers have it at 3 points--no way it's going to stop now."

New polling will be out over the weekend that may bear out Malloy's claims.

Malloy's wife, Cathy (left), also appeared at the festival, as did campaign staff for Gov. Jodi Rell. Cathy was perhaps a bit stressed out, but very friendly and intense nonetheless.

People want to be with a winner and Dan Malloy can win at the primary and against Jodi Rell in November. Beating an incumbant so well liked as Governor Rell will be difficult, no doubt, but let's at least give dems a chance. That chance is only going to come with Malloy; not DeStefano. All this foolish talk of Dan being a republican is unfounded and getting rather dull to read. Their camp works really hard and I hope they win on Tuesday.

Dan is the candidate to choose and I will be voting for him on Tuesday.

Out of the two, he is the one candidate that can beat Rell in November.

Oh yea, Dan is soooooo conservative. Especially his support for gay marriage, women's right to choose (Plan B) and so on.

Give it a rest!!

Wow, what happens to the Dems after the Aug 8th primary. It's a party divided many many ways. Can the factions make nice, not likely.

Rell looking pretty invincible right now

Poor DLC Dan,

He Can't stop lying.Everyone knows his internals have him down 6 and even that # can't be trusted.

Being on the Same line as the Pariah instead of the Masiah means he has no chance at all.

Holy crap!

Did u just refer to Ned Lamont as a messiah?

Don't get me wrong, I'm certainly NOT voting for Lieberman, but damn, get some perspective!

Talk about having a holier than thou attitude.

I heard Malloy's inside polling has him down by 12, but he's trying to spin it.

Are you folks kiiding. Neither one of these guys is going to beat Rell in November. She is very well liked by the public...Republicans, Dems and Independents alike. Further the comments that she doesnt knwo what she is doing are just plain nonsense. She is a very well educated, intelligent, hardworking woman.

Its amazing, if she were a democrat, and republicans were saying the stuff about her that the elfties were saying here, they woud be screaming about her being slandered because shes a woman. its amazing, how as long as the candidate or individual in question is a Republican, its no holds barred.

fact is, she is gonna cream either challenger at the polls. Destefano is an unlikeable troll, while Malloy is seen by those outside fairfield count as a fairfield snob.....

CTR, the only people you are talking to work for Disaster for Connecticut. Nobody but the DeStefatrolls thinks the add is off-base or over the line.

What's more important though is the impact that the ad is having out in the electorate. The trend is strongly Malloy's and the pitch is everything he needs to go 52-48 on Tuesday.

Now, back to work on that.

bluecoat is a wannabe Mainer. Strong environmental laws discourage development, which means open roads for those who don;t need to find one of the few scarce jobs in the state

GOLF! Bluecoat! Great day to be out on the links!

Don't worry, even after Malloy loses, I bet he will still claim momentum and keep trying to get endorsements. The one thing he forgot to get in this campaign, was the people's endorsement, d'oh.

Malloy was right to go after the
JDS on the high crime rate in
New Haven. If some are defensive about that than its because it is
true that crime is out of control there. Look Malloy can beat Rell and
that is information only a few people
like myself know because I know Malloy
and seen and participated in his campaigns in Stamford. If he wins Tuesday there is no stopping him. Sounds impossible to many out there but I know what I know.
