Governor Rell Ready For A Spirited Campaign

Governor Jodi Rell's campaign has issued a very short press release congratulating New Haven Mayor John DeStefano on his primary election victory this evening. The press release states:

"Congratulations to Mayor DeStefano on his victory tonight in the Democratic primary for Governor. I look forward to a spirited campaign based on the issues."

Is it too early to call the November election for Governor Rell?

Even the microphones hate Scott Slifka tonight.

Although a speech talking about the campaign like it was a freakin' camping trip might explain a lot of what happened today.

Anyone else catch the end on CT-N from the Tiki Bar (who the hell runs a campaign party there, anyway)??

It looked like a weird cell phone convo with the News 12 reporter and her producer as Scott Slifka entered chapter 98 of War & Peace.

"Yeah. I know, its 12:06, but Slifka is still talking. Uh huh. We know it's late, but he just won't shut up. Do what? Ok. *Looks at cameraman* Shut it off."

*sigh*

Maybe a Democrat will be governor again someday. Maybe.

Biggest winner tonight may be George Gallo

Not with MacLean up his a** he's not.

Gallo's half Columbian and recognizes the need for the GOP to reach out to Hispanic voters.

Unfortunately those making phone calls for MacLean and refering to Masullo as a "sp**" did not help in that effort.

Jeez. Poor Scott Slifka. Scotty may want to call Dr. David Berman, who was able to help this guy after a similar incident.

Sad statement about the state of politics in the 1st cd iif what you say about Scott MacLean's racist phone calls is true.

I didn't know the guy who sang "American Pie" was a bigot?

I find it hard to believe that ANYONE was even making calls in the 1st for either candidate. MacLean is a nice guy with no game and Masullo is a loose cannon carpetbagger. They should send her the bill for all of the poll workers.

I heard a report that MacLean won a Hartford precinct last night 4 votes to 2.

I would just like to congratulate the unions for once again handing the Governor's office to the Republicans. They gave it to Rowland in 1994 when they backed Curry, and they're giving it to Rell this year by backing DeStefano, who stands no chance of beating Rell. I'm sure Olsen, Canti, Wheeler, Chernoff and the rest of the gang were patting themselves on the back last night for once again cutting off their noses to spite their faces. Oh well, at least when DeStefano goes back to being New Haven's mayor in November, all their precious union jobs and contracts will be safe -- that was the point of all this anyway, right? Too bad they didn't do anything to improve their chances of having a governor who was sympathetic to their cause -- and anyone who thinks Rell will be better for the unions than Malloy would have been needs to have their head examined.

I just love all you annonymous posters who feel the need to bash Roy. considering that Malloy had the unions working against him and only lost by a few thousand votes, I'd say that his campaign, including Roy, did a damn good job. And as for Lieberman, nothing and no one was going to save that sinking ship. The bottom line is the primaries are over and done with -- why don't you brave annonymous posters try refocusing your energies and find something to do other than bad mouth Roy. By the way, I worked on Larson's campaign in 1994, a heartbreaking loss to Curry - so from someone who could still be resentful toward Roy, but isn't, I say get over it and move on.

DeStefano was the stronger challenger to Rell and I will expect him to win along with Lamont and the three DEM CD challengers come November. The failed leadership of the Republican party in CT and the country will be held accountable this November. There is no doubt in my mind about that. Turnout was high yesterday because Democrats are fired up and ready to take back the state and country. And that includes Jodi Rell's incompetent administration that has done little to nothing for the working person in CT.

It is a very happy day for some and an incredibly sad day for others. Let those in mourning do so without your awful sentiments. People on the Malloy campaign are heartbroken as would the DeStefano staff if they had lost...

If you were there, you would have seen the incredibly hardworking staff in utter disbelief. Tears and sadden faces and a feeling of loss are nothing to mock and I wouldn't have posted something bad about the JD camp had they lost. We are all democrats and 1/2 the party is broken .

Even the reporters on the media were brought to tears after an emotional breakdown of two young female staffers for Dan.

Campaigning is hard work. It takes everything out of you. Let's be easy on those who lost. The I told you so is really unnecessary.

Rell cannot move CT forward and
DeStefano would move us backwards.
This is such a sad joke. I still
have faith CT will wake up one day
and elect the right people to office.
I refuse to get discouraged.
