Three cheers for the British police!

Joe Lieberman is becoming the de facto Republican candidate in this race, as GOP leaders and candidates have nothing but praise (and endorsements) for him, while Democrats urge him to drop out. Think Jodi Rell will campaign for him?

One sealed ballot is the key to an election in Groton.

I'm working on the Senate primary map. Yes, I saw the one in the Courant this morning.

What else is happening this morning?

Shorter Cheney:

Connecticut Democrats Heart the Terrorists:

Mr. Cheney offered warm praise for Mr. Lieberman, who was his opponent for vice president in 2000, though he said he did not want his remarks to be construed as an endorsement of Mr. Lieberman.

He cast Mr. Lieberman’s loss in ominous terms, suggesting that it would hearten American terrorist enemies. Terrorists, he said, are “betting on the proposition that ultimately they can break the will of the American people in terms of our ability to stay in the fight and complete the task.

Hope Scotland Yard didn;t use those awful wiretaps, then Neddy ain't cheering

"Gitmo, wiretaps, & Haditha have weakened our moral authority. (Jul 2006)
Don't compromise Constitution for war on terror. (May 2006)
Stand up to wiretap intrusions into our private lives. (Mar 2006) "

Yesterday I received a few emails from angry out of state Republicans who read a post on my personal site. Their anger was hlarious. I'd bet BRubenstein lunch that most of Lieberman's Republican supporters had nothing good to say about him until Lamont won.

For the record, wiretaps are an extremely useful tool. Warrentless wiretaps are something else.

Lets see how many people now start saying that the British terrorist threat was all a ploy set-up by Blair/Bush/Cheney/Rove to make people feel scared for voting for Lamont.

GC, when the constable blunders a criminas goes free.. when a spy agency is afraid of blundering buildings and planes go boom.

Slight difference

The highest responsibility of Govt is protecting its citizens from attack by enemies, both foreign and domestic. The methods to achieve this goal must be effective, and wiretaps etal are not only effective they are absolutely necessary to defeat Islamofascism.

Actually, warrantless wiretaps are also an extremely useful tool. There are standards for the use of warrantless wiretaps and, had the UK situation been occurring in the US, I would think that the use of warrantless wiretaps would have been appropriate.

The United States had all the information it needed to know that the attacks of 911 might happen; the terrorists broke through our defensses - immigration control, airport gate control and air traffic control - with basically no weapons to commandeer commercial aircraft.....

It is a good thing for DeStefano that Mary Glassman got on his ticket. She brings a lot to the table - winning as first selectperson in Simsbury - not a leftie hotbed like New Haven. She is smart and attractive. If he has any shot of winning he needs to use her and incorporate much of the Malloy message. DeStefano ran on a traditional working families theme and barely won and his LG candidate got creamed. Looking at the Gov. Statewide primary map, DeStefano won mostly the traditional Democratic towns, he much quickly broaden his appeal to unaffiliated and more moderate Democrats.

Are any "good government" people upset that a criminal such as Jesse Jackson was standing right behind Ned Lamont the other night? Or is this something else you all want to ignore? I mena c'mon the list goes on and on!!!

9-11 was an inside job, according to Howard Dean.

bluecoat said...

haven't heard Dean was buyingin to the inside job theory but i do know that in their ABC (anything but Clinton) the Bush Administration took their eye off of the ball on counter-terrorism. And I also know that Keane and Hamiltton are going public in a jointly authored book on how they could have done a btter job with the 911 Commission work.

Missles raining down on Israel from Iran and Syria supported Hezbollah is one thing, but this is getting a little close to home. Isn't New York across the border or something? And now the media is announcing that precautions have been taken at Bradley Field which, I believe, is in Connecticut somewhere.

I'm still unclear on how FISA (essentially secret warrant for wiretapping) doesn't handle the things that the Administration wants to use warrantless wiretaps for?

And FISA, iirc, was developed in response to the need for secret wiretaps while making sure such methods were not abused.

The True Gentleman said...

scared, precautions have been taken at ALL American airports...and the threat level is at its highest alert.

Why would Lamont supporters want two racists like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton on the stage? Why get in bed with those two despicable people?

The True Gentleman said...

Bluecoat, are you a former attorney or just assuming to understand how the laws work because of what you've read in the papers and on-line?

bluecoat said...

TG: I know I have said in the past on this blog that I am not an attorney. As for my knowledge of things that I comment on it goes beyond reading the newspapers and the blogs in some form or another.

Icleaned up this post:

The so-called warrantless wiretaps by the NSA were/are new technology for use in law enforcement. The Bush Administration (namely Dick Cheney who was still pissed that during Jerry Ford's term the presidency lost some autonomy) didn't want to be bothered with testing them against FISA or the PATRIOT Act in court - or to go back to Congress - so John Yoo just did his anything is OK for the president when at war, eventhough the US Congress has not declared war in over 50 years, excuse.

I also hear that Bush shot Kennedy, commanded the Japanese at Pearl Harbor, and is the great great great grandson of Lord Cornwallis.

DeStefano better take a long hard look at that Hartford Courant map today if he expects to get anywhere. Never setting foot once in Litchfield County during the primary and completely blowing off Blondin and her supporters is going to come back to bite him now.
He thinks he can win the general election without them-think again.

Hadn't heard that anonymous but you'd be perfect to work in Dick Cheney's office. He likes conspiracy theorists who ignore the facts and distort reason through upside down logic.

GC..your post is on the mark...JDS i bet is about 20 points down and not much time left to change any minds..and once again in a situation where the political oxygen is out of the room due to the Lamont/Lieberman/AS race

DeStefano cant win The Governorship without Litchfield County's support. I think DeStefano needs to literally kiss a lot of Democratic Leaders butt or his Candidacy for Governor is doomed.

Note to DeStefano: Dont bring Fred Flintstone oops Kevin Sullivan with you Because Sullivan isnt popular in Litchfield County Yabba Dabba Doo!!!!!!
