UPDATE: Steamed Cheeseburgergate

Lamontblog has some more reports:

Ned attempts to talk with a 90-year-old WWII veteran pilot from Virginia who wanted to discuss his opposition to the Iraq war. The Lieberman kids scream accusations about Ned's patriotism, spewing right-wing bile accusing him of not caring about our troops, and questioning whether he would (not verbatim) "let our citizens die again," assumedly a reference to 9/11.

One reporter goes up and tries to ask some of these kids whether they are volunteers or paid staffers for the Lieberman campaign. The kid screams in response, "Let me see your credentials!" The reporter produces said credentials. The kid replies "those are fake." None of the 15-20 Lieberman kids there would admit to being paid staffers. Nor would they tell the reporters their names, or any other personal information.
...
The reporters were, to a person, understandably horrified at the spectacle.

The campaign blog has pictures. Here. And here. Click to enlarge.

Tim asks this, but let me amplify it: Why can't I read about this in the newspaper this morning? Reporters were there; one got a bloody nose. So where are the stories?

Or did I just miss them in my rush to get ready for work? If anyone finds stories about this anywhere, post them in the comments...

Is it journalistic favoritism, or simply that the Lamont campaign didn't insist on the negative story like the Lieberman campaign did with the "vicious blogger" storyline?

My sense is that they have a strong bias... towards keeping the race close, no matter what. If it were Lieberman up 5, they'd run the bloody nose photo.

Is this how a civil war starts?
How does non-violence fit into two political campaigns that advocate the use of extreme military force against defenseless populations, i.e. Israel and Lebanon?

The Meriden Record Journal covers the disruption (PDF) by the Lieberyouth, though not the pushing, shoving, and bloody nose. Hat tip to LamontBlog.

According to Time...

Swan said Lamont has no plans to sell either the Halliburton or the Wal-Mart stock. "At this time he is not looking to getting into directly managing or investing any of his funds," Swan said, "If he is fortunate enough to be elected, Mr. Lamont realizes that there are a variety of investing decisions that he will have to make," including, "How to deal with [his investments] in the most ethical manner..."

Unreal!!! Haliburton? Wal-Mart? Here's a guy who led the charge for campaign Finance reform yet he is working for a guy that's buying an election!!! I can't believe you people can't see through this. I hate to use the word hypocrite but this is about as close as it comes!!!

Anon 10:20,

The Time article also says:
He said the account is designed to track the S+P 500 index, and that Goldman Sachs makes the investment decisions for the account.

So again, Lamont has no role in the investment decisions. He is not choosing individual equities. And not surprisingly, he's focused on winning an election next Tuesday, not reshuffling his investments. In any case, choosing to track a broad index fund shows that he's smart about investing.

Yet, Lieberman returns a check and it is somehow a big deal? Please don't tell me that this wouldn't have been an issue if it were the other way around?

He certainly could have told his broker to take them out but he chose not to. For someone who has made the decision to finance his own campaign, this should be scrutinized.

So, it is a professional lobbyist from Washington that was leading the attack on Ned at the steamed cheseburger joint (Hat Tip: aldon at MyDD)

Way to show who your true supporters are Joe.

The reporter who was heckled was Kenneth Cain. See his full report in GQ here:
