Cancel the Panic

Two new polls show Dems up by 13 (FOX) and up by 20 (CNN) on the generic congressional ballot.

Did voters have a sudden loss of nerve?

Meanwhile, the J-I is reporting that Democrats in Connecicut may get veto override power if they can pick up a couple of seats in the House and hang on in the Senate.

If that happens, Jim Amann will essentially run Connecticut.

I can think of no better reason to vote for Republicans running for the state legislature!

Remember that some of those Dems - like Waterbury stalwart Jeff Berger - might jump ship on an attempted veto override.

I don't know that Joan Hartley can be counted on as a solid Dem vote in the Senate, either.

So I would say the Dems might have to add a few more than necessary for Jim Amman to be king of CT.

A veto override might not be such a bad thing, all things considered.

Ken,

Do you really think that a committee chair (Berger) would do something like that? You are mis-informed sir.

Wow,

I just added the IQ of Rell and Amann and the sum was almost 100.

I just called a realtor.Time to go.

Jim's days are numbered. Be patient.

Amman sounds like a Nancy Pelosi-wannabe already. All hail the wonders and benefits of one-party rule.

Amann for Governor!!!

This Administration can't move a moth-balled Aircraft Carrier without getting it stuck in the mud. If the Democrats can sweep this election, they'll never be able to win.

Oh great. Now I'm really not going to get any sleep tonight. Thanks GC. Thanks a lot.

The Dems would only have a veto proof margin on paper. There are many very conservative Dems and only one liberal Republican.

That's stretching it. While they technically would hold a veto-proof margin, the odds of getting over 100 people to agree to override a veto is very slim. Especially because the House Democratic caucus is pretty diverse and filled with members from all backrounds.

That would require Jim Amman to round up 101 votes on a given bill. Good luck with that.

Veto proof margin in the house means nothing. It would have to be so much more than 2/3rds. There are too many House members who march to the beat of their own drummers.

There are a bunch of them who march to the beat of crazy drummers.

When has the Governor veto'd anything?

Non issue.

The governor vetoed the contracting reform bill a couple of times.

The governor threatened a veto of any gay marriage bill, and the legislature didn't have the votes to override it. So we got civil unions instead. An insult to civil rights. My partner and I can jump over a broomstick and call it marriage, but nobody else will. That's why I'm voting against Jodi Rell and for John Destefano. That same reason is tipping a lot of my gay friends toward Destefano too. Something to think about for all those politicians thinking they are voting the safe way by voting against full civil rights for LGBT folks. Things will change, though it will take years. History will not be kind to the foot-draggers.
