Quote of the Day

Dodd on his presidential chances, from Political Wire:
"I sort of have a unique position because I have experience, but I’m sort of a fresh face. I know that’s kind of silly. I’ve been in the Senate 25 years."

Of all of the candidates thus far, Dodd has the best hair. That thing is like a helmet. But that's kind of all he has going for him.

Perhaps I should say that Dodd has the most memorable hair. It kind of jumps right out at you.

President Dodd? Please give me a break.

Someone once said, "President Regan? Give me a break, he's just an actor."

I have posted this before and will repeat it:

Putting aside everything else for a moment, Dodd is likeable. When is the last time the Democrats selected a candidate for President who is likeable? Kerry, Gore, Dukakis - were not likeable in the eyes of the electorate. Kerry typified the elitist, arrogant Democrat; Gore was uptight and condescending; Dukakis was self-righteous and condescending. So history suggests the Democrats will pick Hillary who is the complete package when it comes to all these qualities. Meanwhile, the Republicans, following history, will pick someone who is likeable. And the Republicans will win again despite Iraq, energy, economic problems for all but the upper class, the failure to confront and find Bin Laden, etc. For Democrats, winning isn't the only thing, it's just something that seldom happens.

I don't know if Dodd is likable. And he still faces the problem of being part of the Washington 'problem.' It is easier for outsiders to run for President. Gore came close, but still lost. Dodd is liberal from New England. That is unlikely to sell in much of the country. Speculation on a Presidential run is just ego gratification for him.

Dodd's quote is an accurate assessment. But is it a good enough reason to run for President? Reminds me of Ted's flub when Roger Mudd asked him why he wanted to run for President. He had no answer. He just thought he was entitled.

When I consider Chris Dodd as a potential presidential candidate he just doesn't look that good to me.

When I consider the other potential front running Democratic candidates he may first need to run against, he suddenly looks a lot better.
