Anybody Want to buy the Courant?

Associated Press:
With bids for the mammoth Tribune Co. coming in far lower than expected, the media giant is telling prospective bidders that individual pieces are now available for sale, according to published reports.
[...]
However, investors have shown the strongest interest in the company's individual units, including the Los Angeles Times, Newsday, The (Baltimore) Sun and The Hartford Courant, the report said. In Connecticut, Tribune also owns Greenwich Time and The Advocate of Stamford newspapers, along with television stations WTIC and WTXX. (AP)

Local ownership would be nice. Actually, any ownership that stops gutting the paper's staff would be fantastic.

If the paper itself has no value, what the heck are their endorsements worth?

The Courant has been steadily slouching toward a state of New Britain Herald-ness.

I'll buy it (owning it could give me a discount on my subscription!) As for gutting the paper's staff, I'll try not to, but I can't promise I wouldn't fire Kevin Rennie...

I wish someone who is politically moderate would buy the Courant. Then, the people of this state would get fair media coverage. I am so sick of the liberal media. Curry and Rennie - gone! It's a wonder that any Republicans get elected in this state. If the Courant had its way, the Republican party would not exist. Although, Jodi Rell does not deserve to be Governor.

In the age of the Internet, anyone who buys a general interest daily newspaper with declining readership has more money than sense. Cost and staff cuts are inevitable.

So if they are losing money why don't they just raise the price of the paper? Or sell the paper for $5 in Avon? Because they won't lay anyone off...after all, they always take the side of the worker!!!

A combined Courant and Stamford Advocate would sell well if they marketed it right.

Newspapers have lost their focus. They no longer cover the news but tend to editorialize instead. If they shifted their focus back to covering true local news, then they might increase their readership. We all can pick from dozens of sources for our state and national news, but have no source for good local news. Once they regain their focus on what a newspaper is suppose to be, they may not have a hard time making a buck or two.

Would somebody please buy the Waterbury Republican while they are at it? That paper is a nasty, slanted negative rag!

So is the J.I.

Hye back off on the Waterbury Republican American. Waterbury Councilor Paul Vance, jr used to deliver it on his paper route as a kid. It's only been in the last year that his old man got promoted to Master Seargeant and now Lieutenenat so he can really soak the taxpayer with his useless press talks on department overtime becasue the CT State Police have a strict policy of fooling the residents about what they do and only a few Troopers know how to do it.

Without the WRA, Vance wouldn't be a councilor or a lawyer. Three cheers for the public sector employeees since they are the largest growth sector in CT.
