Open Forum

Interest in elections is very high this year, according to an AP poll. Unfortunately for Republicans, it's mostly high on the Democratic side.

John DeStefano is having a good week, and is happy about it.

Ned Lamont wrote another big check to his campaign. Cripes.

MLN has a profile of Beth Bye. BranfordBoy is right, this seat is almost definitely a Democratic pickup.

Lastly, I will have posts about the 3rd quarter money race, but only as soon as the reports are either actually filed or put up on CFIS. Which may take a while.

What else is happening today?

Even Mark Davis at WTNH has his own blog now and he wants to talk about the DeStefano-Rell debate:"Topic: Rell-DeStefano Debate Blog (Your Input Needed!!)"

Every time we get close to the election we have a terrorism scare...today is the same old thing with this "incident" in New York. You know Republicans under the leadership of Karl Rove will exploit this every way possible. It's almost like it was planned this way. hmm...

What I'd like to know is:
Who is writing the checks for the Lieberman campaign?

From what I understand Republican fundraisers like Mel Sembler are helping to bankroll Lieberman's campaign. I wonder what they'll want in return.

Yesterday CNN reported that, if the Democrats, win a 50-49 seat advantage in the Senate, the Republicans may look to Lieberman to jump ship and give them an even split, with Dick Cheney casting the tie-breaking vote on any bills.

Well, Bush owned a baseball team, and the pilot of this airplane was a baseball player, Cory Lidle (or something like that, a pitcher for the Yankees). So it must've been planned.

First Bush manages to get gasoline prices down by $1.00 by preventing any hurricanes from making landfall along the gulf coast. Next, he gets a baseball player from a different team to do a sacrifice fly for the GOP. And some people call Bush stupid!

mr x is happy because why? Liberal Lamont or liberal Lieberman will lose?

JDS is having a good week? Really?

He is broke. Flat broke and out of money for his campaign. Don't listen to the spin, read his finance reports - where by the way he has misreported expenditures in violation of the law.

He has no money to get up on TV. Proof: watch, you won't see his ads!

The fat lady is singing!

The deal has already been cut. Lieberman will definitely trade sides if his vote is needed to preserve Republican control of the Senate.

Basically any Democrat who votes for Joe is a fool. What they are actually voting for is a Cheney/Rove designed insurance policy.

Yeah, I suppose Karl called the Yankees pitcher and asked him to fly his plane into the building so the republicans can retain a few seats. That is an irresponsible comment.

yes, 4:19. The Republicans paid a struggling Yankees pitcher to fly his plane into an apartment building on the upper east side.

this isn't a terrorist scare, it's an accident.

Thanks republicans for bashing Lamont. It's great that your own party has messed up this country royally for the last 6 years. I want to let all the liberal bashers in on a little secret of mine. If Lamont doesn't tap into his wealth, guess what?, Joe Lieberman could win on election day. That would be very depressing and show the rest of the world that Connecticut stands for nothing!

These are the times that try men’s souls, their political souls. Here in Darien there are rising rumblings that locally connected Republicans may be in for a jolt as their “guy” looses to a former Selectman from Westport.

Shays is in trouble, big trouble. His campaign has been fluttering between peachiness and claims that his time in grade was necessary for the security of the US and the proper course of the war.

It could be that it’s time for Shays to go. Most voters capable of critical thinking have already decided that he’s full of political hot air cramped by an apologetic tone that keeps him wedded to a failed Bush administration.

Shays has attached himself to the Bush hip. It’s not just the war. It’s the way this administration has attacked civil liberties, controlled the media and worked OT to put the best face on a failed strategy. Calling for Rummy’s resignation, as Shays has done recently, smacks of too little too late. Better yet, calculated spin in a spin happy GOP media for a way out in a tight political race, the race of his life. In fact, if Shays actually thinks that’s a solution now then he’s badly misinformed or just another artful congressional dodger.

Shays seems desperate. Last night he ran a so called “telephone town meeting,” a device to chat with people by phone from all over the district. Did it work? It’s a new media move but one that exposed Shays as a chatty, self absorbed and self indulged apologist for himself and Bush. This is a guy that flew under the radar for years under GOP cover as an independent thinker. Hogwash. He’s been nothing of the sort. He’s a Republican that threw Independents and Democrats a bone every so often while collecting the spoils of a “family values, right wing intolerant” party. And, most now know, he knew the hypocrisy all along, afterall, he is a product of Darien!

What is more important And infinitely more depressing for local Republicans is that Shays actually has said to voters that it’s a shame to disregard his years in service for an upstart Democrat. When you stop to think about it, his years of experience have yielded little in the way of direction to one of the most controversial issues of our time.

Talk to any of the Darien young men and women who have served in the Iraqi theater and see if it would have taken them 14 tours of duty to figure it out!

Jodi RELL IS the most INEPT leader in the U.S. She is as dumb as George W. Watch her answer q's. She is short on the INTELECT AND HARD ON THE EYES!

The AP is reporting a story that Democratic U.S. Senator and Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid was involved in a financial deal wherein he earned $1.1 million for the sale of land that he no longer owned. Apparently Sen. Reid appears to have violated the Senate ethics rules by not properly disclosing the land transaction.

Go ahead Democrats, let's hear you call for Reid to step away from his leadership post pending the investigation!

Would it be possible for one of you to put your name to the crap you constantly spew?

The AP story has already been debunked here and here (check out the email from the tax lawyer).

Also, lets not forget that John Solomon, the AP reporter that wrote the debunked piece, has written other debunked hit pieces on Reid before, here and here and here.

Does being this wrong, this often, ever get tiring?

Come over to the other side, we have fun...

Maybe Ned can lend Harry a few bucks to tide him over while this is resolved

I don't read every thread or every comment, but I don't think I've ever seen one argument for Joe Lieberman, just a lot of schoolyard-quality sniping about "Ha ha Liberals, your guy is going to lose. Ha ha!" (and really, all you various anonymi, Nelson Muntz has better writers). Not even the relentless Turfgrl, who hates Lamont with an obsession that is, well, odd, has ever offered a positive reason to vote for Joe Lieberman that I've seen, as opposed to against Lamont. And poor Alan Whosits doesn't even get mentioned at all.

That might be a challenge for the Management here. Care to invite some of the Lamont-haters to make a case for Joe Lieberman without mentioning Ned Lamont?

But Joe brings home the bacon.

Whoops! Connecticut is actually 49th out of 50th in terms of dollars sent to DC versus dollars received back from the Federal government. Of course the Lieberfools will argue that with Lamont at the helm we would find ourselves in absolute last place. But isn't that kind of thinking pretty insulting to our senior US Senator, i.e. Chris Dodd?

Anonymous said...

joe will say anything or do anything for political gain. Now all the black democrats are pissed at joe......hmmm somebody doesn't want to lose thier senate seat. There is nothing like Liberme scrutinizing Lamont for financing his campaing with his own finances. Come on!! Bloomberg spent almost 70 miillion bucks to become mayor of NYC.

THE ISSUE

Lieberman has been condemning Lamont for spending $6.7 million of his own money to "buy his Senate seat" yet recently announced he'll be campaigning with New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a man who pumped ten times as much — over $66 million — into his reelection campaign in 2005. Bloomberg is hosting a Nov. 1 fund-raiser for Lieberman. Does Lieberman see that as a contradiction?

Asked if Bloomberg's self-financing efforts were "wrong," he said "no."

"I'm not saying that anybody with money doesn't have the right, under the law, to spend it and move themselves forward for office," said Lieberman.

If Ned Lamont wants to change CT's ranking of funds received vs. funds sent to DC; he would need to support lower federal taxes on those making above average incomes.

You know, like double income couples earning say $150K a year who will have their Bush "tax cut for the rich" taken away

He doesn;t because he is among the 0.01% if the population who already has more money than he knows what to do with, other than fully fund NorthWoods Advertising's pension fund

Here is one more debunking of the AP's John Solomon's fourth factually deficient hit piece on Harry Reid.

Sam Caligiuri posted his TV commercials on his website today. I have seen them as long ago as three weeks ago. They are pretty good, considering it is for a State Senate race. They are on the bottom right of his homepage. http://www.samforsenate2006.com/
