The Lt. Gov. debate is now available online Worth a listen.
DeStefano is accusing Rell of conspiring to force Aetna to do something evil. I think. Really, I have no idea what he's alleging. Whatever it is, there seems to be very little evidence for it.
A former mayor of Middletown is going to jail for stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars to cover gambling debts.
Chris Shays apparently forgot to record a trip to Qatar on a federal disclosure form.
Lastly, there may have been a violation of state election laws by Rep. Kathy Tallarita, according to Cool Justice. Hmm.
What else is happening?

I can't imagine why anyone would listen to the Lt Governor debate, although I can certainly assume that Mary Glassman wiped the floor with the lightweight.
Brickbat- apparently you haven't been paying attention- at all.
The Glassman/DeStefano ticket will triumph!! (Well, maybe not in 2006, but certainly in 2010.)
get out a geiger counter for Mr. Zoni

Another below the belt political mailer from Sen. Don Williams hatchet man Eric Williams.
Zoni had a chance; this mailer cost him the race!
Why does Chris Murphy's campaign think there's something wrong with Nancy Johnson visiting Poland?
They are running a TV ad criticising her for taking this trip.
Is yuppie Murphy now resorting to insulting Polish people?....maybe he thinks places like New Britain are just supposed to be walked over on his way to being a high and mighty DC politician ?
Message to Mr. Murphy. If you don't think Poland is an important U.S. ally you have no business in Congress
Eric Williams is no Roy O... but he thinks he is... he'd be washing cars otherwise.
It's ironic, the mailer(s) set out to charge that his opponent has no integrity - and it turns out proving that Zoni does not.
Those issues could of worked if not completely misused.
I think the Stamford article was saying that FIC is the only group Giordano's foundation has given to, not that Giordano is FIC's only donor. Or am I reading it wrong?
It's clear that all of the conservative r's are in a tizzy right now with Zoni beause he's painted Caligiuri into a corner. Now what's he gonna say? Zoni's got him completely off message and scrambling. Least, before you post, you should travel to the 16th and hear what folks are saying on the ground.
Negative works, folks, there is no doubt about it. Zoni's mailers were fine and the rest of the voters (who are just starting to wake up) will probably take out their frustrations on Sam for being such a snake.
Oh, and if you were from Southington, you'd know that the Observer is owned by the Rep-Am, which will no doubt endorse Sam this week without ever placing a phone call to interview Zoni.
By the way, who the hell is Eric Williams?? The only people who probably care are the R's in the senate offices who probably arn't anything close to this guy in terms of talent and skill.
The second mailer was great. Zoni's back in the game (for sure) and the next week should be great. Hell, read Caligiuri's blog and it's obvious he's completely off message. I'd hate to be his staff making phone calls and being asked if their boy really did this.
The Advocate said FIC was the only recipient of Giordano's foundation, not that the foundation was FIC's only donor.
The FIC blog post quotes CLP saying ssm/cu's aren't an election issue and MLN saying it is. Their next post quotes several candidates on the topic. Looks like, in at least some races, it is an issue.
I'm sure no one in Southington read this...
"Southington voters deserve a candidate with leadership skills and a moral compass that can help distinguish the differences between right and wrong. Sadly Dave Zoni has come up woefully short in that department."
Ouch.
once again the Senate dems are trying to blog an alternative reality in senate district 16
after the first mailer, noone will pay attention to anything Zoni says or does
Word is Caligiuri is ramping up his media effort. Zoni has done zero in advertising
Courant endorsements are on-line. Lieberman - No surprise. DeStefano - Big surprise.

Governor Groark remembers the tremendous boost the Courant endorsement gave her in 194

Yeah, ramping up his media effort by running commercials about Zoni's mailer? He should just let this whole thing go - really.
As for television, why is it that only R's are doing TV? Maybe the Senate D's know something we don't. Does it matter? Perhaps, perhpas not.
I do live in Southington and I can tell you that a no one cares or they are impressed (er, pleased) that Zoni came back with his recent mailer.
Anon 12:45, at least identify yourself. But, since you didn't, I'm going to infer that you are a Caligiuri staffer...sad, so sad.
Yeah, Caligiuri has an admirable "moral compass"...this guy is a shining star or ethical behavior.
The Groark analogy is way off. Goark was a challenger while Rell is an incumbent. The Courant is recommending the untested challenger in the guv seat this time because Rell has failed the test of leadership that CT needs. That's why Republican members of the state's largest business goup, the CBIA, a going with DeStefano in lieu of what they have or have not seen from "see no evil" Rell.
Anon. 1:08 - It actually probably did help Groark alot, much like this will help JDS. But not enough to win in either case.
This anon is just a resident of Cheshire with friends in the media business. And if TV is such a bad means to communicate, why does Lamont buy so much of it?
From what I've seen Zoni's one initiative in Southington about senior taxes isn;t working at all, so he really has no positive agenda for getting elected
What, again, did Sam do after he took over Waterbury?? I've never heard him say specifically a good thing that he did for the people.
He talks in platitudes more than any other pol I've ever seen.
Zoni doesn't have the money for TV. Calguiri has outraised him 2-1, and that's with all the PAC $ Zoni got with special interests.
0 cash = 0 support
Kinda funny that Zoni has had Caligiuri off message for a week, maybe more, with just one mailer.
he kept the same TV ad on the whole week. That's the message that matters
Besides if Zoni has a message, I'm hard put to determine what it is besides an ability to hurl mud
I agree with most everything that has been said about Erik (that's a K, not a C) Williams. I am certainly no Roy O., certainly don't think I am either. But your post is a little bit unclear...would i be washing cars if I was Roy O.? Or otherwise what? I'm unclear what you mean. I'm just a lowly staff person who is trying to help elect Democrats to the State Senate because I believe that a strong D majority will help make my community a better place in which to work, live and raise my family. And isn't that what it's really all about - putting your money where your mouth is?
