Norwalk Democrats Back Lieberman

Tomorrow's Norwalk Hour will report that the majority of the Democrats on Norwalk's Common Council endorse Senator Lieberman. Of the 10 elected council members, 6 reportedly were unhappy with DTC chairwoman Galen Wells statement earlier in the week that she knew of no other Democrat in Norwalk who supported Senator Lieberman. The six members are: Fred Bondi, Herbert Grant, Phyllis Bolden, Kevin Poruban, Majority Leader Carvin Hilliard and Council Pesident Michael Coffey. Council President Michael Coffey released a press statement:
"We are looking at individuals and Joe Lieberman is clearly the best candidate in this race for the residents of the City of Norwalk".
Lieberman has been instrumental in delivering grants of $250,000 and $150,000 to the Norwalk Housing Authority in past years and $1 million for a harbor dredging project. "Joe Lieberman has delivered time and time again for the residents of the City", the six collectively state.

In other news, the Norwalk Registrar of Voters is reporting that Norwalk has added nearly 3000 new voters. Additionally, approximately 900 absentee ballots have been mailed out to voters. The Norwalk new voter registration break out is:

25% Republican
38% Unaffiliated
36% Democrat

This does not compare favorably to 2004 when new Democrat and Unaffiliated voters alone totaled 4147 as of 10/23/2004. It would appear that once again, Norwalk is on pace to underperform.

Compare apples to apples.

The time periods are different, more than likely.Check the source and you will see these numbers are from summer on, not since last election.

I am happy to see that at least Norwalk has one leader emerging. That young guy Coffey is not only the de facto leader of the party but he is also making himself into a well respected governmental official. I cannot believe that a majority of the Norwalk Common Council's Democratic Caucus is supporting Lieberman. They have some courage.
I think that many of the Norwalk Democrats hope that Galen Wells resigns after the general election

Those six Norwalk Council members all have more experience in government than Ned Lamont does. The only difference is that they do not have 100 million dollards in a trust fund. It shows how money can buy friends and influence people.

How much of the grant money endup up in these guys pockets?

Galen said Democrats not cronycrats.

Just think how much better Lamont would do in Norwalk if the DTC wasn't slinging mud at each other.

anonymous says that the DTC members who support Lieberman "have some courage".

Yeah, right. They support the well-financed incumbent a week and a half before the election when the polls show he's ahead by double digits.

Some profile in courage THAT is.

Just think how much better all these democratic candidates in norwalk would do if they had competent leadership down there.

MikeCT- who is Bob Duff supporting? Bill Finch is supporting Lieberman.. what have you say to that?

i just spoke to a norwalk democratic town committee leader and these clowns will be kicked out of the party. hacks.

"experience": I just love "experience"!

What I'd like to know is, how many of these six great leaders have "experienced" having a pair of officers in dress uniform knock on their door to say "The President of the United States regrets to inform you...."

But since "anonymous" wants to make this about money, the 1.4 million dollars these people cite as reason to support Lieberman works out to about $467 per US service member killed in Iraq. Good thing nobody cares about dead Iraqis. That works out to about $1.85 per life.

Ho hum.

Just as a point of reference, there are not more than 10 regular members of the Norwalk Town Democratic Committee. So if you kick anyone out of that Committee there will be no one left. It is amazing what a tremendous leadership void that there is in that Committee.
It is pathetic that so many of these Norwalk posts are incoherent ramblings from Lamont or Wells sycophants. Maybe you should understand that there is a rising tide of Blue Dogs in this state and Norwalk seems to have many of them.

Coffey as the "defacto" leader is simply a "pipe dream" of ousted old worn out lackies of the party who can't let the new leaders be.

The pent up frustration is really getting to her.

And after they kick all of these courageous Democratic elected officials out of the party, who will be their savior ? Lex Paulson. He will be lucky to get 34 percent against Larry Cafero. That bodes well for their future.

A leader of the party does not thrive and love divesiveness. The Norwalk democrats have been in a circular shootout for so long that real leadership is threatening to them.

These little factions will be cleaned out. They got swept in with Knopp and there is no reason to keep them there. They are serving at the pleasure of whom? Not the Democrats who have spoken, not the DTC. They are no longer credible leaders who listen to their electorate.

Anon. 9:26 - Duff is supporting Lamont.

As A democrat these idiots in the Norwalk Common Council's Democratic Caucus need to be kicked out of the Democratic Party.
They belong in the Republican Party instead.
They want to Galen Wells to resign and she is a real Democrat I hope see throws them out of the Party these folks are turncoats of the worst kind.

Respected by whom - anyone listening would see him as a joke. A lackie, who is kissing up to Moccia is not exactly a normal definition of a leader.

Some people use the smaller minds of others by creating "enemies" and drawing comfort from fighting it out.

It would be a pleasure if the jaded past ousted leaders of the party would simply give it up and let the new talents get the job done. This backstabbing is not accomplishing anything other than the circular firing squad mentality that got those leaders ousted in the first place.

It is truly great that Norwalk has six common council members who are not afraid to endorse the best candidate in a race. They are the true leaders of the Norwalk Democratic Party, and are doing a great job leading this City.
The prior leadership of the Norwalk DTC was one million times more effective than the current leadership on its best day.

Using the term "new talents" is an oxymoron. There is no talent in the Norwalk DTC leadership.

Alex Knopp should have won re-election. That is the start of all this turmoil. There are some that believe the incompetence of Wells was the main cause and others who think it was Knopp's bad campaign. Norwalk has always been a mix of active conservative, moderates and liberals. There are districts that trend more in one direction, but they can switch depending on GOTV. The problem with the leadership in Norwalk is that it is a return of the old precinct leadership that swept in 14 years of Republican dominance. The ignorance of the ground game is what worries campaigns. Wells is not a permanent fixture, her term will end. She should stop being divisive and support all the campaigns instead of selectively only supporting a few. A Democratic win is a Democratic win. As a campaign worker in the Van Zandt HQ I can say that more time is spent bitching about people instead of helping campaigns. That should really stop. It's unpleasant to work in that environment.

Argue in person at the Norwalk Democratic Campaign Sunday Brunch. I'm curious why Galen is so unpopular.

There is no oxymoron in the term "new talents"

Rather ironic

As far as supporting all campaigns, the campaigns for endorsed candidates have been supported by the DTC. Those with a passion for LIEberman simply can't handle it and try to subvert the process with irrelevant criticisms of the DTC leadership. The actions of the six council members who are NOT endorsing the endorsed DEMOCRAT candidates are driven by the ousted old tired leadership. THAT is the whisper campaign that is being divisive.

LMAO

Puhhleeeeze! The reason Alex Knopp lost is, well, Alex Knopp. The more people got to know him, the less they liked him. Just ask the firefighters. They got to know the real Alex Knopp - the guy who loves tv cameras and press conferences but speaks out of both sides of his mouth - and they hated they guy. In fact, the firefighters may have single handedly cost him the election with their votes.

I don't live in Norwalk, but for anyone to blame that loss on anything other than Knopp's personality is kidding themselves.

You should read today's Norwalk and Stamford Advocate. It shows that there are now seven of the ten democrats supporting Lieberman. Matt Miklave joined Poruban, Grant, Coffey, Hilliard, Bondi, and Bolden. I think seven of them supporting Lieberman really shows how the City of Norwalk feels towards Lieberman. It is not a Lamont City as the purported leader and her couple of cronies say.

Anonymous said...

Alex Knopp is a respected Democratic leader in Norwalk, and for anyone to suggest that he's not is out of their mind. He lost the election by less than 200 votes, his campaign was back stabbed by people like Wells who made no effort to manage the get out the vote phoning.

The dysfunction of the Norwalk Democrats is legendary and a matter of fact. The Norwalk Republicans are in a minority and yet they keep winning elections. They field better candidates who put civic pride over partisan games.

New talents! Puh-lease ... you have to be a card carrying member of the AARP before you can mix it with party leaders.

There're more old retirees calling the shots now than before only because its the same clueless power grabbers playing musical chairs on the titanic.

Walk into a room with these guys and its like the foxwoods bus made a wrong turn and dumped off its bingo cargo at the wrong exit. Old white shriveled people trying to hang in the hood, lmao.

That crazy Bill Krummel is ludicrous in calling names of the common council members. Many of them had endorsed Lieberman prior to the convention, through the primary and throughout the election process. It is amazing that Krummel distorts the truth. I guess it figures from a guy who called a minority community a "ghetto" and then refused to apologize for his choice of words.

Seven out of the ten democrats support Joe Lieberman. It speaks for itself. Ned Lamont, its time to throw in the towel in that City.

Anonymous said...

I agree. Seven out of ten democratic councilmen support Lieberman. Ned, its time to go back to the Round Hill Country Club.

The purported Norwalk leadership has a crack legal team of Galen Wells and Ken Slapin directing them. Last time I checked, they were not doing that well this year. They lost a decision in Hartford wherein three Democratic leaders ruled that they were incorrect in keeping an elected official out of a caucus (the leadership of Wells and Slapin wanted their hand picked cronies to run for office and circumvent the democratic process), Ms. Wells brought unfounded election charges against an elected City official, and Ms. Wells could not field candidates for several offices.
That follows a year wherein she lost a Mayor that was ushered in under the prior democratic leadership that had achieved a 15-0 sweep of the common council. Those that think the "new leadership" needs more of a chance need to have their heads examined. I think the old leadership should be brought back and these new demons should be excorcised.

Galen Wells does not have the power to kick these council members out the party. After, the election she will asked to step down. Galen Wells please resign- your the worst town chair in the state.
