Lamont Writes Campaign a Check

Holy cow.
Democrat Ned Lamont, seeking to erase Sen. Joe Lieberman's double-digit lead, is turning to his campaign's biggest financial backer for another infusion of cash: himself.

The multimillionaire businessman, who trailed by 10 percentage points in a recent poll, wrote a $500,000 check to his campaign this week, an aide said Tuesday. Just last week, Lamont had tapped his personal wealth for $750,000 to help fund the race. He has spent $6,751,500 of his own money to unseat the 18-year incumbent. (AP)

Six.... six million. I'd have to work for 190 years at my current salary to earn that much money.

It's a little hard to fathom. Yet Lieberman has raised even more money, from people just as rich.

It's happening so far above my head that I can barely see it.

In any event, Lamont is using that money to pay for advertising, such as this new ad about education:

Guess the Nutroot money ain't coming through....

Come on guys, dig deep!!! Poor Ned can't stick it to W without your help!!! Pony Up!!!

Apparently little Ned used some C-span footage in the ad, which is verbotten. A silly mistake by the rookie.

That was the last ad.

And let's not use the term "nutroot," shall we?

Yet Lieberman has raised even more money, from people just as rich.

Lieberman's donors, except for Lieberman, are limited to a $2,000 donation. This can potentially be maxed out to $8,000 if you're married: $2,000 from you in the primary, then $2,000 in the general, and same for your spouse. Assuming your spouse is ok with this...

I don't think this is a good sign. It seems as if the Lamont train is running out of fuel.

So heres the choice Ct is now faced with

1) vote for a very wealthy guy who put his own money to use because he truly believes his country is in peril because of the crooked DC insiders.

2) Vote for one of the crooked DC insiders who is selling his future votes to the highest bidders as we speak and has no intention of even visiting the State of Connecticut again after this election.

I thank God Every day there are still Americans like Ned Lamont.

is anyone else surprised by this? I would have thought the primary win would have openned up the fundraising gates for ned.

any ideas why he isn't raising? or do we think joe's just got too much money from outside interests?

Anonymous said...

Yes--Thank the good Lord that Ned is rich to defend this state's citizenry from the evils of Joe!!!

Why Joe even kissed the President!!! The Horror!!!

Thank you Ned, Thank YOU!!!!

No more Kool Aid for you. LMAO!

Seriously, this is a pretty good ad. It is better than the other one recently posted.

Here's what I want to know: who are the kids in the commercial?

Turfgrrl, I expect you to do some digging into this one. I mean, it should be fascinating to find out.

My guess: this was some fancy private school in Greenwhich and the net worth of each kid is well in excess of $10 million.

Ned Lamont - man of the people. Thank god there are still Americans like him. LMAO!

Anon3:53--

If Ned isn't raising the $15 million that Joe has spent, it's because 1) he's not for sale, and 2) people recognize his ability to self fund, and we are sending our dollars elsewhere.

It would be great if librarians could fun for the US Senate. Frankly we should all be bitching about the amount of money being spent on this race. But if we are going to mention Lamont's wealth, we should also be talking about what it means when Lieberman raises $12 million plus from out-of-state donors. Exactly whose interests is the Incumbent now representing?

Great Ad......Who cares if Ned is rich. The point is that Lamont gets it unlike Lieberme. The voters of this state are fortunate enough to have the opportunity to actually have thier vote count for once.

The reality is that the netroots which I'm apart of can't financially compete against million-billion dollar corporations.

Let's be real about it. The momentum hasn't been lost at all. It is just that Joe makes a phone call.....and tada ....there is another bullshit ad that is paid for like that.

General Wesley Clark will be campaigning for Lamont at Uconn on Friday. Now that is something worse talking about. This is going to be a HUGE EVENT. Joe can go campaign with all his (Dems for Joe)-I mean lobbyists all he wants. The Hartford courant is actually now going to have to mention Lamont on the front cover. I hope people realize the best candidate is Ned Lamont.

Here Tammy Sun.........all these NEGATIVE Ads. Lock her up in a cage.....please........

Isn't it funny that not one of you argued with this,

2) Vote for one of the crooked DC insiders who is selling his future votes to the highest bidders as we speak and has no intention of even visiting the State of Connecticut again after this election.

Republicans will excuse their leaders for Lying then into war and even screwing their kids.

If you have an R after your name it now stands for REPULSIVE.

Life must be good in the backcountry these days

and two thousand from each of your kids, two thousand from your maid, two thousand from your garndener, PAC money, Michael Bloomberg and Al D'Amato helping him get through loopholes, Enron and GOP lobbyists ponying up, Mitch "Bagman" McConnell and Karl Rove making phone calls on your behalf....

I'm confused, I though Lamont was running for Senate not Board of Ed.

Turfgrrl stumbled into the truth here. What role does the FEDERAL government have in providing education, which is normally a state and local government function? Why should there be more federal government in education? I thought the liberals wanted the feds out of the education business, at least when it comes to No Child Left Behind...

Loserman has all those bank and insurance, investment and real-estate company donations.. not to mention the drug companies.

It's like Corzine and Bloomberg.. you have to be rich to run against a warchest like that. Roosevelt, Kennedy.. they all funded their campaigns.

I'd take Ned over Lieberman and the card counter ANY DAY. He puts his own money where his mouth is... and you don't have to pay to vote, yet, in this country (give Shrubya some time, he's got about 800 more days to rewrite the REST of the Constitution...)

Anonymous said...

That's a pretty terrible ad.

Anonymous said...

No child left behind is to getting a good education as what George Bush is to protecting American's own constitutional rights. Ned Lamont realizes that America's public education system is putting today's generation at a major disvantage in comparison to the rest of the world. All the teacher associations endorse Lamont because they know he has a effective plan, while Joe will attack Ned for stealing his ideas. WHICH IS NOT TRUE! giving students vochers has proven not to be effective for obtaining public edcuation.

lamont has donated over 6 million dollars himself! yet lieberman (who maybe has a million and a half) has raised more money. seems like people are more giving to lieberman...

Great Ad!

Lieberman hasn't raised more money locally. He has what you call lobbyists and private corporations giving up the bacon for the Lieberme. I hope everybody realizes that Lamont is a much better candidate.

I wouldn't care if he'd kissed Mark Foley--consenting adults and all--if he had voted against Rice, Gonzalez, Alito, torture, the 14 billion dollar Exxon subsidy, etc.

Dammit, it's times like these that I wish I took a year off bewteen high school and college. I just missed out on being around for all the action in Storrs.

(The 02 Simmons-Courtney race was fun, though)

Ned is meeting is financial contributions on his website so Anonymous go take a hike the one that supports Joe.

If I had that kind of money and was serious about the issues that affect voters I would put my own money into the campaign nothing wrong with doing that.

I am sure you have given Joe money for his campaign.

The rest of Joes money comes from his Pac and special interest groups in Washington D.C..

Also to burst some Joe supporters bubbles the AFL-CIO gives Lamont shy a 2/3 vote. . He will have 193,000 Union people starting today working actively on his campaign .

Here is the actually report not show on this blog below Labor for Lamont

On October 3rd at
yesterday’s Labor for Lamont endorsement in New Britain, members from AFSCME, SEIU, AFT, CEA, Machinists, UAW, Teamsters, and unions representing over 193,000 Connecticut union members stated they will work enthusiastically for Ned and the entire Democratic Team in November:

“Senator Lieberman lost the AFL-CIO endorsement today,” said Sharon Palmer of AFT. “Lamont fell just short of the two thirds majority needed for the full endorsement but he has over 193,000 workers standing here with him today ready to work to bring his message of change across Connecticut.”

“We’re proud to stand behind a candidate with the courage to stand up for change and working families,” said Robert Madore of UAW. “Labor for Lamont is going to work as hard as we can for change. We will be going door to door, making phone calls and doing lit drops.

More on how Sen. Lieberman has long neglected middle-class and working families in today’s Cup of Joe. It’s not just his positions on healthcare and trade – it’s also things like Sen. Lieberman’s support for the debacle that was the bankruptcy bill.

Now thats just the begiinning of the end of Lieberman I will say it again Lieberman regardless of where he is on the polls is going to lose in November .

Also on another note the Anonymous who stated that Lamont can't raise enough money from supporters has no idea what he's talking about when you don't seek the facts.

ned Lamonts grassroots supports have hit the goals set constantly and just the last few days did it again if you take the time to go to his website which I am sure your not going to do anytime soon.

If I had the money to put into my campaign I'd do it bcause I am committed to the issues and concerns of the voters and I would bet alot of that money plus the grassroots matches are going to tv ads Radio etc.

Lieberman gets his money not from the grassroots but from Wshington insiders oin D.C. .There a hell of a difference.

Back to the AFL-CIO there active efforts now will crush the Lieberman campaign November 7th as more people come out to support Lamont because they realize the stakes are to high to put Lieberman back in only to have him do what the Washington Republican insiders want him to do.

According to Bob Novak, "George W. Bush moved a step closer to Democratic Sen. Joseph Lieberman's re-election bid in Connecticut as an independent candidate when Tom Kuhn, the president's college roommate and close friend, co-sponsored a Lieberman fund-raising luncheon Thursday in downtown Washington.
Kuhn, president of the Edison Electric Institute, raised more than $100,000 for Bush in the 2000 and 2004 presidential campaigns. Also among the Lieberman event's sponsors was Rick Shelby, a longtime Republican operative who is executive vice president of the American Gas Association.

The luncheon's sponsors pressed fellow Republican lobbyists to pay a minimum of $1,000 a ticket. Lieberman has announced he will stay in the Democratic caucus if re-elected.

But Republicans backing him against anti-war candidate Ned Lamont, the Democratic nominee, hope for a change of heart by Lieberman."

It's more likely paying Lieberman back for his tacit opposition to the Cross Sound Cable, Islander East Pipeline and Broadwater projects supported by these lobbyists.

Lieberme is done. We are about a month away from pulling the greatest political upset ever off. There is alot of hard work left to be done, but it will be worth it knowing Ned Lamont is going to be our next Senator. Vote Ned Lamont!!

Anonymous said...

1.) The Hartford Courant doesn't want to give the time of day to mention anything about Ned Lamont. Well who needs the republican owned paper anyway. They endorsed George Bush for the last election.
2.) Lamont is going to win the majority of the Union votes.that will be so signficant.
3.) Lamont will get the majority of the inner city vote.
4.) Lamont will get the majority of the young, college educated, suburban vote. Lieberme's supposed ten point lead after the debates will be completely erased.
That same idiotic poll had Lamont up by 13points five days before the primary. I can't imagine what a ten point lead with 40 days translates into.

Anonymous said...

Bluucoat - I assume you mean Lieberman owes a debt of gratitude to them? If there were a strong R, Lamont would be way ahead...

Anonymous said...

As always, we can be grateful that bluecoat is here to give us the inside scoop on GOP strategy. His knowledge is truly without limits.

You Lamont folks are heading for a big defeat.

Most of my Republican friends say they are voting for Lieberman Because a vote for Schlesinger in their opinion is a vote for Lamont so lets get out the kleenex for you Liberals Because you will need them on election night.
