The Hug

I have no words for how silly this is. Hat tip to tparty at LamontBlog.

I also noticed that Lieberman is traveling aboard a Peter Pan bus. Which is very nice, except that Peter Pan is based in Springfield, MA. Why not a Connecticut bus company, like Dattco (of New Britain)?

"The Hug Without a Bug" made for a Thug.

I hear the Lieberman campaign is making a "Reach Around Button" with Joe and Bills image.

I can hardly wait to see it.

PS;we chatted and had Pizza with some of the people being forced to travel with Lieberman Yesterday at Bar After Marion and Joe Left and even People who have been with Lieberman for a very long time admitted his campaign is the worst they've ever seen or been involved with.

Nor is there a union bug on that pin...i wonder if John Olson will get off his azz and finally stop carrying Lieberman's water for him..

NYT to endorse Ned Lamont!

”[The New York Times, in an editorial published on Sunday, endorsed Mr. Lamont over Mr. Lieberman, arguing that the senator had offered the nation a “warped version of bipartisanship” in his dealings with President Bush on national security.]”

Bluecoat- missed this from a few days ago, wanted to respond.

Apparently Joementum is now questioning the source of Ned's wealth stating that his business, Lamont Digital Business Systems, was basically never much of anything and that Lamont is just a trust fund baby sucking off his wife's hard work. No link, but I saw a letter about it in a local throwaway.

This is a classic example of a half-truth, but the truth part is more interesting than the ahem, non-truth. Annie Lamont makes a fortune as a private equity firm partner. Her firm manages money for pensions (lost $$ for Washington State by the way) and other large investors. What's great about private equity is that you make money, basically no matter what. There is no downside. If you lose money, you just don't earn money. Over the years, Oak Investments has been very successful. Annie earns a lot more than Ned- and she's as tied up in health care businesses as Hadassah is in her junk. In fact, I don't know if Annie can effectively continue as an active investor with her husband in the Senate. (I don't think we'll ever reach that problem in a general.)

It is false to say that Lamont Digital Systems isn't significant. Ned built a serious company- I don't think it's quite as big as it was, but it's a legitimately valuable operation. I do give him credit for creating his own wealth (Lowell Weicker, ahem) and for doing something real outside of politics (ahem.)

None of this really has any bearing on whether Ned is right or wrong for the job. But in the event that lightning strikes and we have a Senator Lamont, we have a Mrs. Lamont with a lot of conflict issues- she may have to leave her partnership. Though Linda Daschle and Hadassah may have been conflict-of-interest trailblazers...

What ever happened to bringing jobs to connecticut? We have two perfectly good charter bus lines based right here in Connecticut: Double-A Transportation (647 Cromwell Avenue; Rocky Hill, CT, USA 06067) and DATTCO Inc (583 South St, New Britain, CT 06051). Also note that the former, Double-A has it's headquarters office a mere 3.8 miles away from the Lieberman campaign headquarters in Rocky Hill...!
