Great new web site: Meet Ned Lamont

My favorite part:

in the early ‘90s, Ned resigned from the Greenwich Democratic Town Committee saying …. “I got tired of reading a bunch of resolutions passed by the DT that I don’t always agree with” (GT, 2/26/93)

Does Ned know that he has to read a bunch of stuff as Senator?

Ah well, if we can get a President who doesn't read newspapers, I suppose Lamont supporters should balance Washington out by voting for someone who doesn't like reading resolutions. For the curious, here's the link, Meet Ned Lamont

Update: The site was the Lieberman campaign, according to The New York TImes. Of course it says so on the bottom of the site too. Interesting article too, framing the influence of blogs on the race. Notably, "The bulk of visitors to several other pro-Lamont blogs based in Connecticut are also from outside the state, the statistics showed."

Turrfgurl you have no shame. I'm sure you scurried to post this as soon as you got the email from Maid Marion Steinfels. There are 4 days until they primary. How many people does Lieberman actually expect to see these same recycled attacks he's been using for the past 3 months?

Really? o_O

Huh. I don't think that's particularly great. Reminds me of every negative campaign mailer sent to me by the Lieberman campaign. Also, it's an official Lieberman website, as it says in small, hard-to-read type at the bottom.

Looks like a very poorly-done (at best) campaign attack to me.

Funny thing is, I consider myself pretty keyed in to the Internet(s) and I had no idea it even existed. Why didn't they use their favorite phrase, "whoisnedlamont.com?

What a laughable site. They don't even bother to update it.

They have display on the fake site:

***********************************
XX days, 05 hours, 02 minutes, 55 seconds since Ned Lamont first refused a request from the media to release his tax returns.
************************************

Waaaaaaah?!?!? Real truthiness from Holy Joe.

lol, no one even bothers to read the site.

All this and Holy Joe is still down 13 points with 5 days to go?

Waaaaaaaah!

I don't see this as a negative tactic, regardless of whether it is an official Lieberman website or not. Everything they note are specific facts about Lamont. Since most people in CT don't know anything about Lamont other than he's against the war, these are interesting facts to my point of view.

You also never responded to my question on the open thread. You seem to be against negative ads, but you have no comment about your guy in the gub. portraying his opponent in a dress. That is not a matter of stating facts about your opponent. That is Bush style politics that I thought Democrats wouldn't stand for. I've gotten Malloy's mailers about New Haven being a violent city, and I can deal with that. I was also not happy to see that DeStefano went negative with quotes from policeman from Stamford in his mailing. But this TV ad is something out of a Saturday Night Live skit. How can you not say that you disagree with this type of campaigning?

Genghis Conn said...

Anonymous,

I haven't seen the dress ad. But it sounds... weird. If he's got DeStefano in a dress, that crosses a certain line... but again, I haven't seen it.

Genghis,

Don't you think that it says enough that he hasn't posted this ad on his website? It exists, I saw it 2 days ago on TV. If he wasn't embarassed by it, why doesn't he post it like he posts his other ads? Maybe Brian Durand can answer that question. He seems to chime in whenever his campaign needs to get defensive.

Liberyouth gone wild from ConnecticutBlog site.

Also if you go to the Nedlamont.com site there are some photo's of Leiberman people disrupting a Lamont event at Ted's
famous for there steamed Hamburgers seems some Leiberman people or paided volunteers were steamed. Read report below.
I got there after this happened around 5:30 PM .

Oh man, the Lieberyouth have gone crazy.

So I just tracked this down with several sources, and something really strange is going on. Lieberman's campaign seems to arming his supporters with aggressive talking points in order to pick fights at Lamont events. There were two separate events today where this happened. At a Machinists union endorsement event for Ned, some Lieberman supporters (probably paid) started arguing with union members, and a sign got torn.

Later in the day, Ned was ambushed at a diner stop. At 5pm, Ned was scheduled to stop at a cheeseburger joint in Meridan (Ted's Cheeseburgers). The burgers were really good, apparently, and the place is famous for delicious cheeseburgers. Mmm. As I write this it's dinner time.

Anyway, Lamont was going to the restaurant for a scheduled stop to do a meet and greet. The field organizer got there 20 minutes ahead of schedule. A bunch of Lieberkidz were already inside, but they were disguised because they weren't wearing their standard white T-Shirts. They were just sitting in the booths, in the smallish restaurant.

There were about 15 Ned supporters outside, holding signs and milling about. There were also some reporters, a photographer, and a bunch of journalists. Ned arrived at 5:05, and spent about 10 or 15 minutes outside before heading in to give a speech and eat a cheeseburger. He goes inside, and all of sudden the field organizer who was behind Ned heard a lot of screaming directed at Ned.

There were only four booths and six stools in the whole place, and they were basically all occupied. When Ned went in, all of the supporters ripped off their 'civilian clothes' and revealed their Lieberman T-Shirts.

A large man, around 50 years old or so, then started screaming at Ned, "Are you an Al Sharpton Democrat, or a Bill Clinton Democrat?" Ned was trying to answer, and the gentleman kept yelling. The Lamont press secretary tried to intervene, and meanwhile, the people behind the counter who owned the restaurant were horrified and embarrassed. Then Ned Lamont went up to the few people in regular clothes and introduced himself, even as the Lieberman supporters kept screaming. He also tried to introduce himself to the Lieberman staffers, but to no avail. The screaming continued, and it was so abrasive that he left, and the whole crowd followed him outside.

These kids poured out, and a half a dozen reporters were mostly outside. The large man kept yelling, and was joined by one particularly obnoxious Lieberman supporter who started yelling about national security and how Lamont would endanger the country. The messaging seemed rehearsed. The Lieberman supporters started getting aggressive, pushing some of the Lamont staffers. When confronted, the Lieberman staffers said that they are just doing what the bloggers did.

In the whole affair, one photographer caught an elbow and got a bloody nose. It seems that the Lieberman campaign is explicitly setting up their supporters at Lamont events in tense and aggressive situations, all in the presence of reporters. When asked, the Lieberman campaign is expressing outrage at the unsavory and unruly behavior of the Lamont supporters. Joe better call the dogs off before we catch them on video.
Okay folks, this is way over the line. Say what you will but I never heard of a Lamont supporter pulling this type of crap at a Lieberman event. This is totally uncalled for and disgusting. Whenever I'm at a Lieberman event, I'm as professional as any other report on the scene. I'm there to report the story NOT and not to be part of the story. I've never heard of a pro-Lamont blogger or supporter of Lamont act like a unhinged wacko and we have all the video online to prove it.

I might disagree with Joe but that does not mean I would ever go up to him and scream in his face. Say what you will about Sen. Lieberman or Lamont but they are human beings for crying out loud. It's one thing to get pissed off at Lieberman's campaign, it a totally different story when you become physical.

Joe, I might not agree with you on several issues but I always thought you were better than this. Call off the dogs, it's very uncool and you know Ned does not deserve that type of treatment. Say what you will about Lamont supporters but you know there has never been a case where you, your staff, or any reporter felt threatened.

I think you should take some advise from Ned and have a lemonade and chill.

Can someone please explain to me why we should care about a website about Ned paid for by Lieberman? BREAKING: They are running against each other. [GASP] The website is not complimentary.

WHO CARES?

Also, FYI - the sight is hilarious in its spin. Go look...

Well, this site is a little crazy. (I'm a Republican, but realize that Lamont's winning has certain advantages and Lieberman's winning has other advantages, but I'm not sure which is better for Republicans nationally).

One of their claims is that Ned Lamont invests in hedge funds, which are "under congressional scrutiny". Well, so are stocks, bonds, and other securities. Yes, venture capital investments pose risk, maybe more than stocks. However, it's his money. Some hedge funds are not risky at all, others are very risky (in fact, the origin of the term hedge fund was because they were a vehicle to reduce risk. Today, the term hedge fund can mean almost any limited partnership).

This site seems to be an attempt to throw out a bunch of accusations and see what sticks. Unfortunately, it doesn't attack Ned where I believe he is most vulnerable: on his stances on various issues.

The Malloy ad showing deStefano in a dress ran last night during Channel 8's local news at 11 pm. (As a paid ad, not by the news guys commenting on it).

Malloy had to spend the day in Stamford dealing with the power crisis there, but it looks like most of the lights got turned back on.

It's pretty sad that Lieberman's campaign has come down to looking like a Karl Rove Republican special. Misleading web-sites with half-truths, College Republicans coming to campaign, LieberYouth acting like thugs, events that try their hardest to keep out the opposition. And to top it off, a level of competence matched only by that of the Bush administration in governing. Joe's not convincing anyone about his Democratic credentials with all this. While I think Ned will be great in the Senate, it is sad to see someone who started out as an anti-war liberal sink to this. I hope he has the decency to see the light on Wednesday and be the Democratic Party statesman who likes to imagine himself.

these are the same attacks that have been used for months and ONLY raised Ned's negatives 1%.

If they haven't worked this long, nothing is going to move in the last 4 days. Would've been better saving the money for this half-ass website for the general!

Turf-

The fact that you had to update your post to explain to the readers that the site WAS PAID FOR BY THE LIEBERMAN CAMPAIGN speaks volumes how you are bringing down the quality of this blog.

Very Republican of you. I wonder if you get Joe's talking points from your buddy Lynn Fusco or Marion.

Genghis, please do the right thing.
