I attended the 1st regional conference of SDS in 37 years..there were 300 or so in attendance at Brown University this last Sunday. They plan on concentrating on anti-war and immigration issues.

Students For A Democratic Society was the most militant and active national student organization in the 60's and 70's and involved themselves in organizing university chapters all thru the country. At its height there were 400 chapters and over 100,000 members ( i was one of the leading CT members).

The did alot of anti-war work...and their members were liberals to the very very far left...

Right now there are 100 chapters and you all should expect more to follow since SDS was a very famous student group with a proud radical tradition and history. There are SDS chapters in Yale,Connecticut College,Central Ct and Wesleyan

The FBI asked me to keep tabs on your subversiveness there br but I told them you were harmless. :))

Five days left in the month, and we have already set a new record for site traffic. Congrats to all, particularly Genghis!

mod.dem.like.jfk said...

I told them he was harmless....and modest too

Great, another wave of SDS members ... now we know where the next generation of middle managers, soccer moms, mini-van owners, money-market investors, Lipitor takers, suburban dwellers and pre-need funeral buyers will come from. *snicker*

Sure, there will be the occasional leftover like brubenstein, who can't let go of what he is firmly convinced was "the glory days" ... A sort of permanently irrelevant, but permanently indignant, underclass -- just enough to fire a third wave another 40 years from now ...

The SDS definitely served its purpose in the brininging about the end to the Vietnam War and gettiing kids who could be drafted to die for their country to also be allowed to vote.

But I would much rather talk about the state Senate vote to end zone pricing of petrol linked here or the sleaze bags on the CT Supreme Court discussed here and here

Dear Jealous posters...( red october, et al)

Red October...if you really knew me....you wouldnt say im harmless...ive run or been a senior operative in more successful dem races than anyone.

Dear Mod Dem....i dont suffer from false modesty

Dear A Diff Anon...getting alittle personal with me i see..i would be glad to meet you and stack up my record against yours anytime. I am none of the things you mentioned....have a nice day and remember to take your viagra !!

A Different Anonymous (No! Really!) said...

And really, your sense of humor only adds to your tremendous charm ...

BRubenstein said...

Dear A DIfferent Anon...I am charming and get paid $500 an hour to be charming...when you get off parole let me know and i will plug you in a race...you would be just perfect helping someone lick envelopes. You wont ever make it as a comedian and im sure your not a operative with a track record.

FormerlyAnon said...

Bruce, we're dying to know - when exactly was the last state-wide race you ran? And when exactly were you the finance chair of the Dem Party?

BRubenstein said...

Formerly Anon....call me at 860-527-9611 and i will let you know.

I was either vice chair or finance chair from 94-2000

FormerlyAnon said...

Why can't you tell us all - here in public? You seem to be very proud of your work, but you refuse to name the race you said you won.

mod.dem.like.jfk said...

brubenstein: when you say "ive run or been a senior operative in more successful dem races than anyone." Could you add in parenthesis -"(cue evil laughter, thunder and lightning effects)"- ? It would help convey the power trip. JK.

BRubenstein said...

Dear Formerlyanon..when you acquire a set and let all of us know who you are..like i have..then i will...until then your just a person too afraid to be real.

TrueBlueCT said...

Bruce--

Tune out DiffAnon. He is always a snide commenter here.

I'm a proud fan of student activism, and sadly thanks to Bush, Cheney, Lieberman and Rumsfield, we have our generation's next Vietnam to rebel against.

Can someone tell me why chose to take over Iraq? To encourage more hatred of America, and more fanatical suicide bombers?

BRubenstein said...

Dear Mod.Dem.like.JFK...

Is that the best you have? Is that all you got?

You are just another anonymous scared person. Try to be nice on your rounds delivering mail at the LOB...

FormerlyAnon said...

That's right - insult me in the hope that maybe people won't notice that you STILL didn't answer the question. What race have you won? Perhaps it was another triumph from the Marcus years?

ctkeith said...

Red October,

It sickens me that Sullivan, as cheif justice, tried to minipulate the process instead of protecting it.
Nancy Dinardo did the same thing by leaving the impression with a NYT reporter that "state central endorsed Joe Lieberman" and was forced to ask for a correction which the NYT printed.

My son has his first little league game late this afternoon.I have been telling him for the 5 yrs he has been playing baseball that the umpires do the best they can and never pick sides or want one team to win over the other.Bad calls happen but they are not because the umpires are bias.
DiNardo,Sullivan,Zarella and all the other umpires who kept Quiet just made an ass out of me and every other parent trying to teach are kids to respect the umpires.

mod.dem.like.jfk said...

brubenstein- when I typed JK, it meant I was "just kidding". not at all meant to be personal.

also I'm home sick today with a paper cut from yesterday's mail run, those manilla envelopes have sharp edges.

Well, I'm going to go be anonymous along with DeanFan, CTketih, TrueBlue, Gengis, CGG, Turrff Girl, disgruntled and others.

Hope you have a better day!

Keep that charm coming, Bruce! It's working wonders. Why, $500 an hour seems a small price to pay ...

BR: I said that you were harmless in the relation way the FBI onec considered the SDS to be a threat to national security;sort of as they are trying to rummage through Jack "Merry Go Round" Anderson's old papers; as I said SDS was effective in its time and I expect maybe you will be effective again; lighten up or I'll tell the FBI your phone number is posted on this blog and that you are trying to subvert our democracy - they'll never find you on their own because they are as a group Fancy But Incompetent; chill :))

Dear FormerlyAnon ( and still anon)

I ran the successful efforts of the Mayor Perry race in 89...she was the 1st Afro-American female mayor in history in the northeast in a large city...any political operative with some longevity in Hartford will be glad to confirm it to you.

Additionally, i was the instigator and the senior operative who convinced Denise Nappier to run..and she is the first Afro_american female in the nation's history to be the Treasurer of a state

I could name more races...but what the hell..you remain anonymous..too scared to crawl out from the rock you are hiding..let us know who you are and what races you have successfully won.

truth squad said...

speaking of umpires, wait a second, thats not the umpire, thats arego palatzo. arego palatzo saved the queen!

BRubenstein said...

Red October..Now that was funny...and i still probably have an FBI file...even if you give them my name and phone number..it will take them years to find me.

FormerlyAnon said...

Okay, so it was one statewide race that you ran. I'm so glad you get paid $500/hour, as you're clearly not racking up lots of billable hours, as you're so busy sharing your political wisdom here. Is the Marcus connection the reason you're so disenfranchised?

BRubenstein said...

Dear formerlyanon...you have yet to tell us how many races you have won as a senior operative...ive named 2 and could name more...

Its $500 an hour to see me as a lawyer tyvm and you must wait for an appointment as im very busy.

Im not disenfranchised at all and remain very busy helping candidates here. Are you disenfranchised? Why havent you announced which races you are involved with or are you simply a keyboard ninja and armchair political operative?

goodbye said...

BR: they have one on me too because when they approached me to take the names of all you guys who were riding the bus to DC to chase chicks, I told them I wouldn't help them because you were all harmless and just expressing your opinions or letting off some steam.

And ctkeith's umpire story is about a poor an analogy as to the two situations he talks about as you can get. Sullivan and DiNardo did are not in the capacity of umpires in those situations - both are bosses of their organizations who have rules to follow and they chose not to follow them because they thought the ump was looking the other way.

BRubenstein said...

Dear Red October...like any good Leftist i rode the bus or train to DC usually high and couldnt wait to "chase chicks"

I like Keith personally and he shares my politics...and...so do many others in here...and he is right though about Sullivan and DiNardo...both abused their respective positions.I highly doubt that Zarella will be re-nominated..Ms Rell would rather nominate someone much less controversial...if you are a lawyer ask to be nominated unless you dont like wearing a robe every day.

BTW i appreciate your sense of humor...

disgruntled_republican said...

Comparing Sullivan and DiNardo to umpires is not anywhere near a truth. DiNardo is Joe Torre to Gallo as Francona (I'm a Sox fan and a Republican) and Sullivan is Bud Selig, the guy whom is upposed to be impartial but really isnt.

For whoever said I am anonomous...It isn't very hard to figure out who I am by simply reading my profile and doing a google search or 2.

As for the name calling...grow up.

goodbye said...

Sullivan and DiNardo absolutley abused their power but they were not in the position of umpires was my point.

Thanks, I try to keep a sense of humor about this stuff. I am absolutley pissed at where the country is going.

And BR by way of minimal disclosure, I am not a lawyer but I did take the LSAT's a couple of times. Just not my thing. BUT if CT is like the US, I may not need to be a lawyer to be a Supreme.

Oh my God this is clearly the funniest set of posts I have ever seen! SDS - whoohoo! Such a piece of crap - keep tooting your horn about what you did 40 years ago (and Im sure we all believe you too). Then go and try to remain relevant by posting continuously on a blog (how do you find the time as you are soooo busy)and swear that you are not a sellout as you pawn your wares on a cheap cable commercial like so many other ambulance chasers and snake oil salesmen. Anyone within the party knows you are a hack and a traitor and your little methods of moving money from one PAC to another to another and then giving to R's are ameteurish.

FormerlyAnon said...

Please don't tell me I've missed Bruce's commercial!! What cable channel? How's the hair?

BrassBoy said...

Mayor Perry??? Is that serious??? I could run a (semi)trained monkey on the Dem line and have him win the race for mayor of Hartford...

BRubenstein said...

Dear Dem with dough....thank you for the compliments...i do hope there is some type of award or fee for this...Please,please do me a favor and keep on using the rogaine...i will send you a case of metimucil and a bag of stool softener as you seem alittle grumpy today...ta ta !!!

DEAR DEMWITHDOUGH;

In the last 10 years i have given money to some Pacs...namely the state dems...ccag...and ctla...in none of those organizations am i in a position to influence or dictate where my donations go...if you have any evidence otherwise please let us all know..otherwise you are just another scared blogger so afraid of me and other good progressives that you would prefer to spread lies and remain in hiding.

htfd anon said...

BR a good progressive????? He walks into a room of progressives and people jump out the window!

BRubenstein said...

Htfd ANON..the fact is you dont yet own a set of - - - - otherwise you would do what i did and announce yourself and let us all know what you have done in politics.

Be a good boy and go sit in the corner with a dunce cap and try not to drool or make a load in your pants this time.

TrueBlueCT said...

Guys, I'm going to suggest the repeated personal attacks on a fellow poster are out of line.

Can't we keep this blog to criticisms of what Bruce has to say, and not his person? The repeated anonymous sniping is just plain wrong.

BRubenstein said...

truebluect...thank you for the posting

As you can see there are some in here with no sack or set of balls and so afraid of anyone progressive or controversial that they hide themselves and snipe personally and spread lies.No wonder they are pukes, failures and armchair political types.

I dont need their comments deleted, after all my positions gain everytime they take a personal attack against me with no evidence or proof.

MightyMouse1 said...

Agreed, this blog is getting nasty.

That being said, SDS will have no legs.

Chris Murphy pulls ahead of Johnson, who responds with attack ads

I didn’t believe it when someone posted it here a couple days ago because I had not seen confirmation, but a MoveOn poll showing that voters are shifting from Nancy Johnson to Chris Murphy is real. I received a similar e-mail from MoveOn today. Here’s what it says:

Take a look at what we did together in Connecticut's fifth Congressional district—a seat held by a Republican for 24 years:

* Before the ad ran, Republican Nancy Johnson led Democratic challenger Chris Murphy 47% to 46%. After the ad Johnson is down 41% to 51%. That is a HUGE shift.
* The shift was even bigger among Independents. It went from dead even at 45% to 45% to Democrat Murphy leading 55% to 35% over Johnson.
* Among women voters the Democrat had a 1-point lead at 46% to 45% and now he leads 53% to 38%.
* Just to be sure these changes weren't due to national trends, we also polled before and after in a comparable district where no ad was running. There, the Republican's lead increased.

A graph of the poll results is also on their Web site. This is an extraordinary turn of events! It demonstrates Johnson's vulnerability and explains why she is so anxious that she would start off her campaign with negative ads attacking Murphy.

Now MoveOn has launced a new ad criticizing the Medicare drug bill that Johnson shepherded on behalf of the drug industry. You can watch the ad and view the back-up facts.

As the Courant reports, the ad points out that "Congresswoman Johnson accepted $400,000 from big drug companies and got caught red-handed voting for a law that actually prevents Medicare from negotiating lower drug prices for our seniors."

After her initial backfiring ad attacking Murphy for the first MoveOn ad that he had nothing to do with, she's doing more of the same. Her new ad attacking Murphy will reportedly air this week.

MoveOn backs up their criticism on the Medicare bill. And you can easily look up her massive contributions from the insurance, health, and pharmaceutical industries, eager to reward her for her work on their behalf as chair of the powerful Health Subcommittee of Ways & Means. And who could forget the $82,250 she received from the pharmaceutical industry during the 20 days when her committee considered the Medicare Part D bill?

The more Nancy runs from her record and spews negativity, the lower she goes in the polls!

Genghis:

Yes, but on you, long hair looks good. ;-)

Genghis Conn said...

I have an inquiry into MoveOn about that poll. It isn't from the Murphy campaign, and I doubt Johnson has those numbers.

I'll let you know if I find anything out.

MikeCT said...

Genghis,
The poll is definitely by and for MoveOn. (I asked them for more details, but they did not respond.) I understand the Courant and others will be reporting on the ads (but probably not the poll) tomorrow. I think it's a thread-worthy story.

Bruce, as you are, apparently, the greatest political operative in the history of CT democratic politics, perhaps you could do your party a favor, put the self-glorification on hold for a moment, and spare some wisdom to help elect Democrats. I do beleive that Republicans still hold the Governor's office and the majority of Congressional seats. Sounds like there is work to be done for the caped political crusader: BRubenstein.
