Define Cozy with the Bush Family 101

I suppose if you are going to go campaigning on the premise that Lieberman is too cozy with George W. Bush, you'd have a squeaky clean no coziness policy in place. You'd make sure that you quit the Bush family bastion country club and de-emphasize the gated communities you wired up for cable in Texas. But surely you wouldn't have your wife funding one the Bush family's many companies? It would have been amusing if it were Neil's company but no, it's Jonathan Bush, a cousin of the George W. Bush.

The details, available in the September 11th issue of BusinessWeek reveal that athenahealth a Watertown, Massachusetts company creates e-health software, and that the CEO is Jonathan Bush. Much of the cash, according to BussinessWeek, came from Oak Investment Partners, whose managing partner is Ann Lamont. In fact, Ann Lamont sits on athenahealth's board.

So while Neddie is out complaining that Lieberman is too close to Bush, and the Lamonties follow blindly, his wife is busy shoveling cash at Bush's cousin. Yup, nothing to see here, it's just the way business is done. The old adage about following the money sure does lead to some interesting places. Let's hope some investigative reporter decides to dig into when this money deal was made, who connected whom, and what other financial ties bind the Lamont and the Bush families.

gotta give you credit for the research aspect of all this, turfgrrl, but even I don't buy the claim that lamont is tight with bush.

here's what i take from this, though.

we know nothing about lamont. he won't disclose his wife's financial dealings at all.

lamont is a rich guy, his wife is rich and they travel in rich circles, just like the bush family.

lastly, and i hope all the left-leaning lamont supporters read this, i think lamont is far more moderate on budget issues then most democrats.

careful what you wish for!

If we're going to consider the Lamont Bush connection shouldn't we also consider the Turfgrrl, Fusco, Lieberman connection?

What an astonishingly asinine post by turfgrrl.

Okay, given her track record I suppose it's not all that astonishing.

turfgrrl,

I assume the "fact" that Oak Investment Partners is an investor in athenahealth is accurate. I also assume that Annie Lamont is on Athenahealth's board as you say she is. That wasn't the asinine part of your post.

As for the rest of your rant, I think The True Gentleman covered the response rather well.

The facts don't bother me at all.The only question I have is did Annie Lamonts decision to put her companies money behind this business make money? If it did she did he job.

The editorial comments in this diary are total crap just like all turfgirls other diaries. Ann Coulter must be her hero.

What else should one expect from someone who took the job of building the Norwalk DTCs website and then handed the info she was given in order to complete that job and handed it to the Republicans.
People with no business ethics won't have any in politics either.Every day turfgirl is allowed to conyinue to post as a frontpeger here decreases the credibility of this blog.

Um...how is a company that makes software for healthcare companies impact the State of the Union? Saying that this is somehow comparable to Lieberman's reflexive support of the Bush administration is more than a stretch. It's stupid. And referring to Lamont as "Neddie" doesn't help your claims of objectivity.

and to respond to your other insightful comment on the ties that bind Ned Lamont to the Bushes: How many US soldiers are dead because of the Lamonts' country club membership?

O please Turfgrrl. Why don't you look at all the overt things that Lieberman has supported the president directly on. Like a war for example. Or did you miss that?

I don't think sharing a few investments with a Bush cousin while giving contributions to the presidents opponents qualifies as news.

Sorry but this is smear, not a debate.

Turfgrrl said..."I don't have any problems with Lieberman's various stances on the Iraq war. Lately he's been pushing for holding the Bush administration accountable, which is more than Shays, Simmons or Johnson have been able to muster."

I'd like to see some evidence of Lieberman pushing to hold the Bush administration accountable. He seems to put a lot of rhetoric like this into speeches, but where are his actions to this effect? I don't see him using his seniority or committee positions to hold the Administration to even the lowest standards.

And Lieberman's reversal of his previous position by now calling for Rumsfeld's ouster was done to score political points solely.

Actually, Anon., I could care less about turfgrrl's "connection" as she is not the one running for public office. She is a biased poster, for sure, but so is everyone else on here!

But I noticed that you mentioned Fusco - but you left out JDS. Perhaps we could hear about the Fusco-DeStefano little connections over the years!

Rell tells all about Tomasso, and DeStefano comes clean about Fusco. I bet the latter relationship would be more above board.
