Dodd Picks Up $1 Million

Chris Dodd's 2008 presidential campaign raised $1 million at a recent fundraiser.
Sen. Christopher J. Dodd's presidential campaign raised about $1 million in its first major fundraiser this week.
...
Dodd's greatest need is to come up with a campaign kitty that will be considered viable. In the insular world of early presidential politics, activists look to the money figures as evidence of credibility and support.

Dodd had about $2 million on hand last month, a number which will clearly grow because of the fundraiser. But he still lags well behind others, notably New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, who has an estimated $20 million on hand, and 2004 Democratic nominee John F. Kerry, who has about $17 million. (Lightman)

I think that sounds a lot more impressive than it actually is. Still, this could mean he's at least gaining a little credibility.

And why not? Democrats could do worse than Dodd.

He offers the fact that he isn't Hillary Clinton. That's a plus right there for Democrats who don't believe she can actually win.

If the DEMS dont nominate a more moderate, mainstream DEM such as Mark Warner, Evan Bayh or Bill Richardson and instead opt for Hillary or Kerry or feingold, they will ose in 2008. Americans will opt for what they see as a mainstream, centrist candidate and that isnt Hillary or Feingold.

On the other hand, if the Dems do nominate someone such as Warner; and if the GOP fails to cajole Condi into running and winds up with McCain, Giuliani or worse (back stabbing Frist) the Dems will easily win.

Huh...what?! I dont know a single republican who is overly impressed with Condi Rice. Not a one....considering how many republican I know and associate with...thats alot. The GOP needs a conservative candidate who can appeal not only to the GOP base but independents as well. Despite my misgivings about Guliani's liberl leanings...if he runs...he wins. He is so well known and liked, he woudl be very difficult to beat. personally. the best candidate out there not only for the GOP but the country is Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee. he is the real deal, a genuine person and leader. Thats what we need...plain and simple.....

Hi Aaron! I'm a member of CT GOP State Central and many of us there are of the belief that w/out Condi on the top of the ticket we're in trouble in 08.

Frankly Aaron, I'd probably support Hillary before I supported that guy.

Authentic Ct Republican, I dont doubth that there may be republicans out there that liek Condi, but I personally dont know a one. I also dont know of any independents who would vote for her. She isnt the right person for the job.

I really have to question your comments though, when you state you would vote for Hillary over Guiliani? yes he does have some social liberal leanings but do you really think Hillary isnt anything but a wolf in sheeps clothing?

this country needs someone who is genuine, honest and understands what average americans are going through......that isnt Condi....or McCain or Frist......ideally Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee is the right guy. If more folks get to meet this guy and here him speak, they will be sold....no doubt about it.

With regard strictly to the party it has been betrayed by people like Frist and specter and Yes the President. President Bush has been anything but a conservative and has proven to be too bullheaded to see, admit and correct his mistakes......

Why not, she's no more liberal than he is and seeing as he likes to make believe he's a Republican while she doesn't it appears she has more integrity too.

I think he's a snake.

2008 who would I support for President I think Chris Dodd would be a good choice But I am sure he wouldnt do well in the Deep South with the religious fanatic base that is there.

Russ Feingold I don't know enough about him yet to say I would or could support him.

John Kerry NO WAY I think he would do worse on a second bid for President.

Im not really thrilled about Hillary Clinton running maybe someone could change my mind on that.

That leaves Evan Bayh, John Edwards and Barack Obama. Obama still needs some seasoning, Edwards of the three has the experience of having run for VP Downside he isnt in office now That leaves Bayh who I believe could run for VP with whomever shakes out for President.

2008 is going to be a lackluster year for both Parties. It will be interesting to see who comes out on top on both sides.
