Some business... don't forget, we're still looking for a second conservative poster. Thanks to those who have already sent me an email about it! If you're interested, email me today by 5pm. I'll announce a decision sometime tonight.

Also, please don't forget about CT Election 2006, the Connecticut campaign wiki. Most races have at least minimal data about them by this point, but there's a lot of information that isn't there yet. Please consider going there and adding what you know!

What's happening around the state today?

Tomorrow marks the two-year anniversary of Governor Rell taking office. The Dan Malloy for Governor campaign released a report card grading her on her first two years.

See the report and read more about it here.

Talk about spin! This report card is complete rubbish and based on her approval ratings (and Mayor Malloy's poll numbers), the people of CT obviously don't agree.

I'll adress the crime section, because I find that one to be the most refutable.
1) Regarding the stolen firearms bill, there were provisions in that bill that made many people uncomfrtable. A responsible gun owner could be held accountable under that bill if a gun was stolen from their safe without their knowledge. I keep my arms in a safe and don't open it for months at a time. If someone stole one of my many, many firarms, I may not realize it for 2 or 3 months.
2) What is Malloy's alternative to CJTS? Better after-school programs aren't going to keep every kid from committing a crime. Plus, if the state abandons CJTS after investing $57 million in it, there would be an even bigger issue of wasted tax dollars.
3) The Hartford thing...blame Mayor Eddie for starting one of thoise gangs to begin with!

The other thing, if you Dems think you're going to beat Republicans this year by continually saying John Rowland, you're halucinating from your activities in the 60's...you capitalized on the Rowland fallout in 04 and the voters see beyond that now...but by all means, keep employing your futile methods. BTW, Danny, you still have a primary to win, so maybe you should put some resources toward beating JDS first.

Wow, I am surprised she did that well seeing who wrote the evaluation; just wondering where all that state money and tax breaks Hartford (and even Jodi on the RBS deal) sent down to Fairfield County to support Malloy's agenda to turn Stamford into mid-town Manhattan fits in. he wants to make the rail line like the subway: greenwich will be downtown/WallStreet, Danbury will be Queens, Norwalk and Westport - uptown, the new Bronx will be Fairfield and Bridgeport....and I guess New Haven will be Staten island...

On the gun reporting issue; it was Rell's DPS Commissioner, Boyle, who pushed one realistic bill and she really didn't back the guy. Morano's version was pretty stupid.

DC says in Rell's defense:Plus, if the state abandons CJTS after investing $57 million in it, there would be an even bigger issue of wasted tax dollars. but Jodi has already ordered it abandoned; she wants to forget about Johnny...

I'm not even going to read this report card. Talk about crap.

Derby..i also have a gun in a safe..and agree with you that the stolen firearms bill is stupid..i agree about number 2 as well...

DM is grasping at straws with issues that arent thought out...i dont see him beating JDS let alone Rell..

Chris MC said...

The best part of Rell's reort card is the Overall Assessment:
Gets along with others, but consistently expresses shock and surprise over events that are her responsibility and should have been within her control. Lacks clear vision and plan for future.
LOL.

Rell defenders never want to address that simple summary. The explanation for this is that it is irrefutable. There's just nobody there. Her handlers are just trying to sit on their lead.

But you can't beat somebody with nobody. Right now in the minds of the public "Governor" Rell is compared to Brand X. But come August 9, the voters will have Dan Malloy to be for, and Jodi Rell will still be a nobody of a State Executive.

BRubenstein said...

Chris....if you really thought that DM would win you would have taken me up on my wager offer..

So lets re-state it..lets both put down any amount up to $1000....i will take JDS to win the primary and you can have DM...

bluecoat said...

the overall assessment of Rell is funny political satire and to some extent true; but why would the voters be for DM on Aug 9 after he loses the primary? will he run as an Independent like his fellow DLCer Joe?

Chris MC said...

Pull your pants up already Bruce. Nobody cares.

LOL.

bluecoat said...

BR: there's nothing in the Malloy talking points about what to do when offered a bet...

Brian Durand said...

Bluecoat,

I'm confused as to why you're asking that question at all, given that there is pretty much no reason to make such an assumption. I've personally heard Dan say at a number of debates that he and Mayor DeStefano are friends, and although he fully expects to win the primary of course he would support Mayor DeStefano if he were to lose.

bluecoat said...

mr. durand: if you read your heper ChrisMC post you'd understand; I find your campaign supporters, like your candidiate DM, to be obnoxious and empty but full of spin. at one time I had actually considered voting for the guy if he got to the general election ..not now..

**AUDIBLE GASP**

BR, the great progressive Democrat has a gun? I won't tell anyone Bruce...it's our little secret that you harbor conservative tendencies.

Notice Brian Durand didn't address my comments...because he knows that the report card was a stupid idea...don't you guys have to announce that the Tooth Fairy's Local 127 is supporting Dan in August or something?

Derby Conservative said...

Seriously Bruce, if you ever want to hit the range, let me know. I'll bring one of my more un-P.C. pieces with me.

It is almost filing time for the Congressional races. I think the Dems are on track to make a huge showing this quarter. From what I hear, both Courtney and Farrell are on track to out-raise Simmons and Shays this quarter just like they did last quarter. I also know that Chris Murphy's number 1 priority has been to raise more than Nancy Johnson this quarter. He has been embarrassed to be out-done by Courtney and Farrell in past quarters and I hear he is finally going to do better than Nancy this report.

BigGulpzHuh said...

I heard the same thing. When I talked to Sara Merriam last, she said that Chris's goal for the quarter was $650,000 and he had already reached that a week ago. i think Murphy shows real momentum by posting over $700,000 raised this quarter. By beating Nancy in the filing report, he will ensure that Rahm will give him the necessary funds to beat Nancy in November. One of my Republican friends tole me that Nancy's fundraising has been lagging all quarter and that she will struggle to raise $400,000. I also think that Courtney and Farrell will outraise their incumbents as well.

IvyElitist said...

Ya, its well-known that Murphy is going to post $700,000 this quarter. I heard that Courtney and Farrell are each going to post well over $500k as well. If Murphy is smart he will do a press conference to announce it.

Chris MC said...

That would be absolutely huge. Probably earn some media too!

Hope it's true...

Murphy's fundraiser with Rep. Barney Frank on Memorial Day must have been a success!
