CT Legislature Open Forum

Senate Democrats Committee Assignments

Senate Republicans Committee Assignments (some committees seem to only list ranking members and not the whole Republican contingent)

Neither House Democrats nor House Republicans have announced their committee assignments.

Feel free to use this as an open forum.

Dramatic - I hear you, but GAE only has one Republican listed. That can't be right, can it?

A few surprises, but generally seems like both the D's and the R's have been pretty thoughtful about who is on what committee.

Defranzo at Transportation is probably the biggest deal. With Ciatto leaving, this is probably the largest power shift. Was this expected? What does it mean?

New senators generally seem to make sense too. Lawyers Maynard and Caligiuri are on General Law and Program/Regulation Review. Businessman Debicella is on the Commerce Committee (although I'm surprised he was also put on the powerful Appropriations Committee as a freshman). Doyle is a pro-business Democrat on reg review and general law.

Most other incumbents stayed where they are.

P.S. The Republican list is complete-- they only get one member on some committees because there are so few of them!

why does Roraback chair reg review?

I hear one of the Democrats' top issues is to reinstitute tolls on CT roads. Interesting. Didn't hear anyone campaign on that issue.

I don't think Sen. Maynard is an attorney. His campaign website indicates that he received a BA from Connecticut College, but does not list a JD. Nevertheless, I agree that he'll make a good addition to the General Law Committee and LPRI Committee (as well as chairing the Select Committee on Veterans Affairs and serving on the Environment Committee).

Huh. Didn't know that Maynard was a fellow Conn alum. Go Camels!

Reg Review and Program Review are "bipartisan" committees-- equal number of Senators from each party, and always has one co-chair from each party (alternates by year between House and Senate)

So deluca gave roraback the one available chairmanship. Does this show AR is thinking of challenging Murphy? Or should this have been expected?

I would think this is to be expected. Sen. roraback is a very bright capable person.

Color me surprised.

Let's get back to bashing teachers.

Any announcements/news/rumors on Rell’s commissioner’s purge or lack thereof.

If Caruso stays as House Chair of the Government Adminstrations & Elections Committee, expect some interesting meetings/hearings with Slossberg as his Co-Chair.

I agree. Defranzo as Transportation chair is the biggest deal, especially if he remains chair of the FRB bonding subcommittee. He's either looking to succede Murphy in Congress or move up in the Senate ranks.

Anon 1051 -

I believe Regs/Review is a bipartisan committee.

So, Jodi Rell thinks she is the "voice of reason"? How about this. No Republican on her under ticket even came close. Were the voters sending Ms.Voice of reason a message? Yes, they liked her more than JDS but that was about it. Don't get to cocky Madam Governor. Check the numbers, you are way out numbered for a reason.

I love how on this blog everyone who lives in the 5th District is running for Congress. Maybe DeFronzo just wanted a better committee. Or maybe he just wanted to get away from Caruso.

The budget surplus is for the current fiscal year that ends June 30, 2007.... The projected deficit is for next fiscal year that begins July 1, 2007 (FY08).... When the General Assembly convenes in January their main task is to pass a two year budget for FY 08-09....current projected revenues are coming up short of anticpated expenditures.... this is a problem

The current service budget request by agencies is about 10.5% over current year spending. The Governor is quoting a $600million gap. This size gap at this point of the budget development process is not unusual or alarming. State agencies pad their requests and do worse case projections. Gaps of less than a billion are usually not a problem for OPM. Keeping the FY 2008 spending increase to 6% to 7% would be enough to wipe out the gap.

Anon 7;44 pm;
7% of $16 Billion is more than a $billion. What's inflation? What's wage growth? Not 6% or 7%, that's for sure!
Oh I forgot, this is Connecticut where none of this matters.

Caliguiri on aging and Education. Yes, Murphy is in his sights. I am not saying he runs, but he is sizing it up.
