RE Danbury:
Mark Boughton should have little difficulty defeating Esposito. He was reelected in '03 with more than 60% and should be on rack to win by 10+ points.
Espositio is a proven loser who just recently moved back to Danbury after a brief stint in Georgia.
Boughton's recent mishaps aside, he will have an overwhelming $$$ advantage and will run a campaign with his sights set on Nancy Johnson's seat.
I shook my head this morning when I clicked on Westport Now (http://www.westportnow.com/ -- it's either a blog or an online newspaper, not sure which) and saw that the lead was a picture of the new Democratic candidates for selectmen. One of those pictured, Gordon Joseloff, is the publisher and editor of ... Westport Now! It will be interesting to see how he covers his own election.
anonymous,
I can't imagine that Boughton will carry the volleyball-playing Ecuadorian vote.
Tom,
What a lovely conflict of interest. I notice that that fact wasn't mentioned in the picture. Not good ethics.
I, too, am not quite sure what exactly Westport Now should be classified as. It's mostly photos.
In the online version I just looked at, it parenthically disclosed his connection to Westport New. But I think that's a recent addition. I'm pretty sure that when I looked at 8 this morning, there was no mention of it.
Mr. Joseloff used to be a big time journalist, and his previous employers certainly would not have allowed him to run for public office. Small-town politics and journalism are different, I guess.
Truth is, small towns need good journalism more than they need another candidate for office.
Tom,
No, that definitely wasn't there when I checked a few hours ago. At least he did put it up, finally.
Perhaps I should take back my prediction of a solid Boughton win. The Newstimes will be reporting tomorrow that the FBI raided a local garbage business with strong ties to Boughton.
Danbury may get interesting.
Anonymous,
Interesting! Sounds like trouble for him. I'll have to read the article tomorrow.
Genghis-
The Courant ran a primer in today's edition. The Newstimes should be more in-depth.

Huh. Another corruption case? Definitely worth watching. Thanks for the link.
The Newstimes has a few artices on the FBI raid of AWD. They don't directly mention Boughton as being connected, but nobody know where this could lead.

Actually, Gordon Joseloff's connecton to WestportNow was indeed there when the photo was posted.
If you check on any story in which he is mentioned, his connection as editor of WestportNow is always mentioned.
The reality is that traditional politicians have screwed up repeatedly in Connecticut and it will be refreshing to have a non-politician who has a distinguished background as a journalist running Westport's government.
