The alcohol ban in Eastford has been lifted.

Connecticut is getting $500 million in road money from the federal government, a small part of which is earmarked for the completion of Route 11. Money is also earmarked for the replacment of the Q Bridge in New Haven.

Michelle Jacklin's Last Stand is very much worth reading. I don't know what the Courant is thinking, these days.

What else is going on?

Dan Malloy's site has a press release up announcing four union endorsments, it reads in part:

Democratic Candidate for Governor Dan Malloy, Stamford's Mayor, today announced the endorsement of four labor unions, including the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 145, Carpenters Local 210, Laborer's International Union of North America Local 146 and Sheet Metal Workers Local 38. Combined, the unions represent thousands of Connecticut's working men and women.

I believe those are all Fairfield County or western Connecticut unions.

Kerry Guy makes a good observation but none of that stuff plays with the populace as he mihgt recall from his guy's campaign. There was a crackdown by the state on New Haven liquor stores because colleges are there. The drinkers are up reveling at UCONN but Rell's opponent is in New Haven. DiNardo should be going after Rell's inconsistencies left and right but then she'd have to pick on Amann and williams.

Has anyone heard the rumors, besides the one that Lowell Wrieker will primary Liebermen, if he doesn't get Defense Secretary... That Bill Curry is planning to jump into the race in the 5th CD to save what he sees as a weak Chris Murphy race against Nancy Johnson. Does anyone know about this?

(Accidentally put this in the Education Post--meant for it to go here)

This Malloy vs. Destefano Union Stuff is turning into old hat. Don't you guys remember the Curry/Jepsen battle where Curry had unions/delegates locked up (supposedly) and Jepsen had the fundraising locked up (supposedly) and then Jepsen jumped out because of his deal to be Chair of the Party? Doesn't the early days of this primary (Malloy/Destefano) seem familiar to you guys???

...Ha! Great rumor. Curry was prescient about Rowland, and he's a smart guy, but he really isn't a great candidate. His coming in to "save the race" would be a sight to behold.

I can't see him ever doing that.

Whoa whoa anonymous... I wasn't suggesting anything other than it was an interesting piece of news. If anything, I agree with you that it is a sign that we are too far out to predict anything. Months ago people were calling DeStefano the only union candidate - and this might be a sign that isn't true. That's all. Try and relax a little, buddy. And Ghengis - I don't think their location matters much. If anything, being closer to Stamford means they may have worked with Malloy (I'm guessing - not sure how to research this) and if so their endorsment is based on real-world experience, so it should be more valuable.

I'm relaxed, just making a parallel point. You have to be kidding me about this Bill Curry stuff? Can't he just go away?

Anonymous said...

if the Curry rumor is true, then it seems likely that Chris Murphy must have at some point turned down Roy O's consulting "expertise" on the basis of his "record of success."

Bill Curry should be enrolled in a 12 step program for chronic campaigners

He will be endorsing Malloy and Lieberman when called upon..his sister ( a once upon a time liberal) is working for both of them.

Bill Curry has more credibility now than ever before...especially in the minds of the media. The guy is a policy wonk...very smart, he is well known in the district, I think he would be a great fit. He hit the nail on the head with Rowland and I think many people regret the fact that they fell for old Johnny Boy's political saavy. CT needs more people like Bill Curry.

I just think a great way to make a political comeback is to run for an office that is not statewide!!!

I heard Jacklin is going to work for Global Strategies. Anyone else heard where she's going?

It's too bad that Michelle Jacklin is leaving. I have enjoyed reading her columns and the one thing I can say about her is that she is fair. I've heard her on Colin MacEnrow's show and she seems to be very very bright. Too bad. The right wing media wins again!!! They must want more Lauwrence Cohen.

Dear Anonymous...I was a curry insider...jepsen did not jump out to bcome party chair but did to become the LG candidate which was a tragic and imbicilic move mainly sponsed by roy o,cathy and betsey (global stratigies)but what it did was suck any suspense out of the race and Jepsen proceeded to only raise 60k or so on orders from his folks in hopes curry would lose and Jepsen would become the Gov candidate in 2006. Jepsen took the party chair job when curry lost..and with his help ..and proceeded to do nothing with that job...If Destefano makes a deal and Malloy is the LG candidate, the same thing will happen...Malloy would be told by Ellen Camhi and others not to lift a finger..

That is, without a doubt, the stupidest thing I have ever heard on this blog.

Lowell Weicker is now on the Colin & Bruce show on WTIC AM 1080. Anyone hear what he said about running or not running? Mostly talking about the war. I didn't catch the start.
