House Dems Assign Committee Leaders

See CT News Junkie for the complete list, but maybe the biggest news here is that newly-minted Democrat Diana Urban will be vice-chair of the General Administration and Elections Committee.

Giannaros left high and dry. Members several terms his junior, some of which faced not so easy re-election battles (like Gentile) got positions, but Giannaros (with 71% of the vote) got nothing.

Speaks to the rumors about how his colleagues view him.

I don't think margin of victory has anything to do with committee assignments.

And I think the reason Urban got GAE was because the leadership of both chambers was having trouble finding people to work with Caruso. Note sophomore Gayle Slossberg as the Senate Chair.

Anon 11:07 - Perhaps not, but wouldn't you think a secure 6 term incumbent like Giannaros would be able to score some cushy committee assignment, versus a second term legislator who has had a tough election both times she's ran?

Giannaros is a deputy majority leader. He is an ass, (but an economist!) is not well respected (but is an economist), but he is hardly left out of the picture - and hey, has he mentioned he is an economist?

Why does Guerrera the Gorrilla continue on as Transportation Committee chair? We need someone with insight, a willingness to think outside the box, and a vision for mass transportation. This guy's only vision is for lining his pockets (T&T Construction Company.)

Anon 12:11 - I stand by what I said. Committee assignments are mostly about who's close to the Speaker. It has little to do with seniority. And it has nothing to do with how tough your election is.

The two biggest surprises are that 1) 4 House Dems left GAE and Leadership shrunk the size of the committee - they escaped the Caruso craziness and 2) Art Feltman got P&D chair.

yeah and Fleischmann can yet again carry the union banner in the Education Committee.. not much new will happen there... same old same old.

So then Giannaros is on the outs with Amann? Didn't he support Dyson anyways.... Giannaros used to be Education chair back in the day.

Giannaros and Speaker Amann has a good professional relationship so deos he with the Majority Leader. That is why he was re-appointed as Deputy Majority Leader. He had no interest in Chairing a Committee since he had done for six years (Energy and Technology and Education). He enjoys being in the top leadership and making a difference!
