Open Forum/Upcoming Events

This Friday at 1:00pm there will be a question-and-answer session with 5th District congressional candidate Sen. Chris Murphy. You can post questions here if you don't think you'll be around then to ask them directly. I'll post your questions, as always, in the Q&A area when the time comes with your username attached.

I will be conducting an interview with Sen. Murphy beforehand.

Otherwise, this is an open forum.

Quick Update: (8/17, 1:45pm) I'll be on the streaming version of the Bruce and Colin Show this afternoon at around 3:50. The actual radio waves will be taken up by the Sox game, so if you want to listen in, the address is www.wtic.com. You can click on the "listen live" button.

Senator Murphy, where do you fall on 'Catholic issues' like abortion and gay marriage? Also, I would be interested to know if and why you have not supported campaign finance reform?

Mr. Murphy, you have spoken critically about the DLC to a number of individuals around the district, most recently at the "How to be an effective activist" meeting held in Cornwall last Saturday.

What is your criticism of the DLC, and how do you intend to distance yourself from the implied criticism of Rep. Larson and Sen. Dodd, both of whom are DLC members?

It appears that we Democrats still have yet to learn our lesson. We need to work against Republicans, not against memebers of our own Party. The DLC is just as much a part of the Democratic Party as Americans for Democratic Action. One of the reasons I am a Democrat is because I value inclusiveness and diversity of ideas. I urge other Democrats to do the same.

Senator-

You seem to have a good progressive record, best of luck. If elected to Congress I hope you will continue to fight for reproductive rights. Rep. Johnson voted against the ban on late term (partial birth) abortion. How would you have voted?

Sen. Murphy,

Could you tell us more about your state legislative accomplishments?

As you are aware, the proposed budget by the Republican Congress is an all-out assault on public programs, particularly programs for low-income people. What will you do as a candidate and Congressman to help turn back these draconian cuts?

On Genghis' online radio appearance - can someone record it as an mp3 and post it later here?

The radio appearance was yesterday, and I have no idea where I can get a transcript short of writing to the station and asking for one. I had a nice conversation with Colin and Bruce, though, who apparently actually do read this blog.

Sen Murphy,
I am happy to see such early interest in beating Nancy. Will you be opening a Web-Site soon? Do you have an HQ that I can volunteer at?
