Open Forum/Upcoming Events

This Friday at 1:00pm there will be a question-and-answer session with 5th District congressional candidate Sen. Chris Murphy. You can post questions here if you don't think you'll be around then to ask them directly. I'll post your questions, as always, in the Q&A area when the time comes with your username attached.

I will be conducting an interview with Sen. Murphy beforehand.

Otherwise, this is an open forum.

Quick Update: (8/17, 1:45pm) I'll be on the streaming version of the Bruce and Colin Show this afternoon at around 3:50. The actual radio waves will be taken up by the Sox game, so if you want to listen in, the address is www.wtic.com. You can click on the "listen live" button.

Senator Murphy, can you identify one issue where you differ with the leadership of the Democratic Party?

Senator Murphy, where do you fall on 'Catholic issues' like abortion and gay marriage? Also, I would be interested to know if and why you have not supported campaign finance reform?

How do you respond to the charges that you moved to the district only to run for Congress? How do you overcome this charge while running against a Waterbury native son?

Mr. Murphy, you have spoken critically about the DLC to a number of individuals around the district, most recently at the "How to be an effective activist" meeting held in Cornwall last Saturday.

What is your criticism of the DLC, and how do you intend to distance yourself from the implied criticism of Rep. Larson and Sen. Dodd, both of whom are DLC members?

Hey, if Murphy takes on the Democratic Losers Club, he gets my $250, this week!

One DLC Senator's wife is a "consultant", getting paid undisclosed sums, from who knows who, for God knows what.

The other DLC Senator's wife works for that nefarious PR firm, Hill & Knowlton, representing Big Pharma and Insurance Corporations.

Couple this corporate America coziness, with their hawkishness on Iraq, --- Well it makes it exceedingly difficult to your average working class person to actually believe in the Democratic Party.

P.S. Larson's Congressional staff should hire some people of color. The lack of diversity has disturbed me the last three times I have seen him in public.

It appears that we Democrats still have yet to learn our lesson. We need to work against Republicans, not against memebers of our own Party. The DLC is just as much a part of the Democratic Party as Americans for Democratic Action. One of the reasons I am a Democrat is because I value inclusiveness and diversity of ideas. I urge other Democrats to do the same.

I am a Waterbury Firefighter and I would like to know why you voted for the State Oversight Board which destroyed the rights to collective bargaining.

Sen. Murphy, I was wondering why you decided to run for Congress?

Senator-

You seem to have a good progressive record, best of luck. If elected to Congress I hope you will continue to fight for reproductive rights. Rep. Johnson voted against the ban on late term (partial birth) abortion. How would you have voted?

Sen. Murphy -

From your record in the Senate, we know that you have been out front on numerous health care issues. We also know that Nancy Johnson is perceived to be a health care advocate. How do you intend on running against Nancy with regard to this issue?

Sen. Murphy,

Could you tell us more about your state legislative accomplishments?

As you are aware, the proposed budget by the Republican Congress is an all-out assault on public programs, particularly programs for low-income people. What will you do as a candidate and Congressman to help turn back these draconian cuts?

On Genghis' online radio appearance - can someone record it as an mp3 and post it later here?

Senator Murphy,

I was also wondering about your experience running campaigns, especially Charlotte Koskoff's, and how that will play into this race. I know that Koskoff's campaign almost beat Nancy, and I was wondering if that might help you.

The radio appearance was yesterday, and I have no idea where I can get a transcript short of writing to the station and asking for one. I had a nice conversation with Colin and Bruce, though, who apparently actually do read this blog.

Genghis,
I've definitely heard Colin mention your blog on at least one occasion, I got the impression that he's a regular reader. In fact, that's how I first heard of it and ended up here.

Sen Murphy,
I am happy to see such early interest in beating Nancy. Will you be opening a Web-Site soon? Do you have an HQ that I can volunteer at?

Sen. Murphy-

How much money do you think you will need to raise in order to win?
