Commissioners (not Moody) Fined

Huh.

The State Elections Enforcement Commission fined 16 members of Gov. M. Jodi Rell's administration Wednesday for illegally handing out invitations to a Rell campaign fundraiser to their subordinates.

Thirteen commissioners and three deputy commissions each agreed to pay a $500 civil penalty. The invitations to the Dec. 7 event at the Marco Polo restaurant in East Hartford were distributed to the commissioners by M. Lisa Moody, Rell's chief of staff. But Moody was not fined, because the state election law does not apply to her. Lawmakers are considering legislation that would close that loophole. (AP)

Make of it what you will. Looks like this is the end of the Moody thing, at least legally speaking. I'm sure Rell's Democratic opponents will have something to say about this: I'll update when I find out what.

I'm still scratching my head over the Moody thing.

As I stated on my blog, why are the aides paying the fine while Moody gets to walk away this with only a slap on her wrist from Rell.

The aides wouldn't have to pay anything if it wasn't for Moody handing out the invitations.

Apparently because the law applied only to commissioners, not to the governor's chief of staff.

The prohibition applies to "Department Heads", and Rell is the department head in the executive office, not Moody. Although most would beg to differ....

This isn't going to go away for the Governor. Once the dems choose their candidate - it will be Malloy - the gloves will come off and Grandma Jodi will get hammered on this issue, along with her reactionary politics and her lack of vision. It will be a horse race.
BTW, in this morning's Republican-American, a Middlebury Republican selectwoman smacked around the governor concerning her car tax "scheme." People are getting wise to the scam and it is going to work against the Governor.

What color is the sky on your planet, Brass Anon?

Hey "a different anonymous (no! really!)."
Must you ask? My sky is blue, just like the color of my favorite states. I never liked red.

Just wondered, given that you thought (a) the Dems will nominate Malloy; (b) either candidate will fare well enough against Rell to make it an actual "horse race;" (c) the specter of Dan "Look! Look! I Got My Letter!" Malloy trying to run on ethics would be anything other than dryly amusing; and (d) people (other than those who get to spend the dollars in question) are actually against the idea of not having to pay their car taxes.

Red sky at night, sailor's delight. Red sky in the morning, sailors take warning.

I'm pretty happy with a blue sky and a blue state. That said, I think this is pretty close to the end of it and I'm glad that Mayor DeStefano has focused his statement on the issues that we face.

“Gov. Rell’s Administration has earned a dubious distinction by having so many top commissioners and deputy commissioners fined. But even more troubling is the governor’s failure to help families make ends meet. People I talk with across Connecticut say they’re concerned about paying their mortgage, providing healthcare for their children, and keeping the heat on during the winter. The governor just doesn’t seem to understand the insecurity facing the average working family in Connecticut. That is the real indictment of the Rell Administration.”

A different anon -

Are you serious? You must be the only person in CT still caring about that investigation. The guy's records and past were more thoroughly examined than either of the other candidates, and he came out clean. From my perspective, he's the only one of the 3 who's passed a test like that.

Capt. O -

Point taken ... But Dan "Look! I Got My Letter" Malloy was shorter than Dan "While Gov. Rell Was Fighting for Reform I Was Signing New City Ordinances Making It OK to Give City Officials Gifts As Long As We All Solemnly Agreed They Weren't Bribes And We Really, Really Meant It, No Kings X" Malloy

Aldon, I bet these 28,000 families would beg to differ.

Bad luck for Malloy or DeStefano fans. The Moody issue is a done deal. To try and resurrect it down the road would only push Aunti Jodi's ratings even higher!

Reminding voters about proven ethical immpropriety in the Executive Office will cause Grandma's #'s to jump?

Forget "whats the color of your sky". What the hell planet is this?

a planet where people care more about finding a job, then whether or not lisa moody passed an envelope.

what plant are you on?

Keep focusing on this, just don't be surprised when both of the dems will still be refered to as Mr. Mayor after election day.

all of you are too funny - blue / red/ green/purple ... it does not matter since a vast majority of CT voters want the real deal... jodi rell. when the dems in the legislature get it they may finally get traction - when the dem candidates get it they may stop bleeding -- meanwhile the people aka the voters continue to trust a person who tells it like it is - jodi rell - and isn't afraid to take a stand on somthing.

my grandmother always said ...stand for something fall for anything Go Jodi Go and yes I am a proud democratic

on another subject --- I would love to have the health care benefits of those helicoppter employees in stratford at Sikorsky - I pay 20% of the premimun and a $15 co pay everytime I go to the Dr... last time I had a raise was 2 years ago - get with the picture - times are a changing and so must all of us..... deal with the real world not some fabrication of a world that no longer exsists..... lets get back to helping the real vulnerable and forget about the rhetoric.. go dems/.

Sikorsky is moving south and they are leaving Stratford with the bill. This was palnned several years ago when they developed a marine One entry that had no chance of making it but a great future as a corporate aircraft.

Think about it.

notice they have a plant in Alabama, a right to work state.

Methinks they'll be singing a lot more Lynyrd Skynyrd than "Look for the union label"

Maybe Hoffa can get his members some Giants tickets. It is rumored his dad never misses a home game
