There is a reason that people who work in New Haven and have a choice in the matter live and send their kids to school in Branford, Hamden, Cheshire, and so on. The city continues to struggle because nobody thinks of going into New Haven except for the neighborhood around Yale

There are still some great places to live in New Haven (Westville, hee hee, East Rock- and yes, increasingly downtown.) But most people send their kids to private school. This means that they are willing to pay NH taxes and pay extra for education. Frankly, I wish I could move back.

I think JDS is a competent mayor. He certainly had a string of dreadful predecessors. But as Ross Perot once said (and this time he was wrong, but this may be the right application)- just because you can run the corner grocery store doesn't mean you should extrapolate that into thinking you should run Wal-Mart!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10214263.post-1154204242182145092006-07-29T16:17:00.000-04:002006-07-29T16:17:00.000-04:00HealthcareNOW said... What it did attack was his often openly hostile relationship with his police union - who haven't endorsed him - which puts the public safety of all citizens in Stamford at risk. I guess since he had only token opposition in the last few elections, his people aren't very good at running campaigns.

The bottom-of-the-class political science major at the worst college in the country could tell you that a good strategy doesn't have you calling your opponent a closet Republican and a leftist simultaneously, and could also tell you not to use a mule as your image when people are saying you aren't a true Democrat.

He seems to have made this image of now allowing regular folks to his campaign events.GMRhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16839216603164745797noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10214263.post-1154146550984869022006-07-29T00:15:00.000-04:002006-07-29T00:15:00.000-04:00Hopewellian,I do stand corrected on, based on your...Hopewellian,

I do stand corrected on, based on your word. I remain uncorrected on what we don't remember.

I would be shocked if NOW (and I do know what NOW stands for, but thanks for being so patronizing) did not endorse Joe in 2000 as part of the Gore-Lieberman ticket over the pro-life Bush-Cheney ticket. What would the PAC be for if not that?

In so doing, NOW's endorsement helped to nearly place Joey Rape Remarks in a nice office in the EOB, nearly put him a heartbeat from the Vice-Presidency, nearly made him a putative 2008 Presidential nominee (if the ticket had carried.) That is, unless NOW concedes that is has little political impact.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10214263.post-1154128962733907562006-07-28T19:22:00.000-04:002006-07-28T19:22:00.000-04:00"...a mule is only half a donkey."The bottom half,...
"...a mule is only half a donkey."

The bottom half, of course.

Which makes Lieberman an ass's ass.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10214263.post-1154127199020733332006-07-28T18:53:00.000-04:002006-07-28T18:53:00.000-04:00Whoa, whoa, slow down GMR -- you're applying logic...Whoa, whoa, slow down GMR -- you're applying logic. How would it not involve government bureaucrats looking through all sorts of private salary data and then determining which employees are underpaid/overpaid? Does it apply if one company that has predominately women pays less than a separate company with predominately men? Would this firm with more women have to increase their pay for everyone, or just the women? How many state bureaucrats would need to review salary data? Would they compare companies in high cost areas with low cost areas?GMRhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16839216603164745797noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10214263.post-1154116643240746642006-07-28T15:57:00.000-04:002006-07-28T15:57:00.000-04:00If you're in New Haven Today Stop at BAR at 5PM. But, it's ironic that the abbreviated name of your group is "NOW". Why all of a sudden NOW? Joe's positions haven't changed since 1988. NOW supported Gore-Lieberman. NOW backed Joe in 1994 and 2000 in the Senate races. Why NOW? After all, in 1988, NOW backed Weicker- they knew better that year. But that was then, this is NOW.

I give your group credit- many people on this list created and fed the monster they are trying to defeat. At least in 1988, you had purity. But you sacrificed your purity, knowing Joe's positions and record thereafter. Until NOW.

Maybe you can undo some of the damage that you have inflicted upon your cause.

If my memory is wrong on your past endorsements, I will gladly stand corrected and say that you were right all along.

If Joe wins the primary (which is like asking if Lincoln comes back to life), will NOW back him over Alan? Will NOW just withhold an endorsement?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10214263.post-1154115461816333652006-07-28T15:37:00.000-04:002006-07-28T15:37:00.000-04:00Nothing like killing the unborn to get the libs in...Nothing like killing the unborn to get the libs in a lather. Joe Lieberman became a conservative, er..."moderate" when he decided to run to Weicker's right.

Did he support Sam Alito? Oh, yeah, that's right, he opposed him but let him go through without a fillibuster.

Steady as she goes!

Is this a year when he supports school vouchers or opposes them? He enacted a version of a voucher law when he was Senate Majority Leader (Rowland tried to fund it a few years ago), but then Joey abandoned it when he saw the chance to be V.P.

And who can ever forget his courageous stand on the Clarence Thomas nomination -- when he waited until the confirmation was in the bag before he came in and decided to vote no?

Is he for or against privatizing Social Security this year? I can't keep track of his changes on that one, so I'll assume he's taken whatever position he deems to be to his advantage.

I'll give him this, he's been steadily wrong in supporting Bush's war in Iraq and criticizing the war's opponents. He even supported Alberto Gonzalez, the legitimizer of torture.

Now, THAT's a steady guy.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10214263.post-1154114468547270672006-07-28T15:21:00.000-04:002006-07-28T15:21:00.000-04:00Heres a report from The Kiss Float" which seems to...Heres a report from The Kiss Float" which seems to be following the Lieberman Bus Tour (I kid you not)

Just back from Naugatuck, Seymour and Ansonia.
