*Updated* Rell Questions Arrest of Krayeske

According to News Day (via AP), Governor Rell is on the case.

She [Governor Rell] called on Commissioner Leonard Boyle to review the circumstances of Krayeske's arrest and determine how he came to the attention of state police and how his name and photograph were provided to the Hartford Police Department.

"In this environment of heightened security, the use of information must be balanced with the individual rights of our citizens," Rell said in the letter. "In providing security and protection, we cannot permit the rights of individuals to be trampled."

It's a step in the right direction.

*Update*
Colin McEnroe has the text of the letter that Rell sent to Department of Public Safety Commissioner Leonard Boyle.

*Update #2
House Judiciary Chairman Mike Lawlor was just on Colin McEnroe's show and indicated that web sites and blogs were being monitored to look for potential threats.

Lawlor Quote: "Apparently state police employees were trolling the internet, blog sites prior to the inauguration seeing if anyone was talking about any type of interference of the Inauguration. And they encountered Ken Krayeske's one post that to me is not at all threatening..."

GOOD. I hope she's serious about this.

Is Rell going to tell us what she saw if anything and when she saw it. In other words, did she see this guy charge her and did she feel threatened or was he hiding behind the camera so she couldn't see him?

And how about an explanation of KK's sudden release on a PA just when Cinderella was about to turn into a pumpkin?

She doesn't horse around; she's actually even straighter than her image, if that's possible.

That said - no one after showing up to disrupt a political event, then making it known of his intentions to do it again, should be even the slightest bit surprised when they wind up on some list.

Consider this:
Everything posted here in defense of Krayeske could have been said about Lee Harvey Oswald as well.

Unrelated question: can anyone shed light on why Herlihy beat Steve Berry in the 8th Senate district last time? Berry seemed like a strong candidate, and the district mostly went for Murphy (that part of the district in the 5th...)

she just threw Boyle under the bus. Typical Republican.
He is her Mike Brown / George Tenant.

Is she going to make the rest of the names on this magic list public????

Whatever the political consequences may be, Rell is doing the right thing here. Those in uniform will always overdo it; if we are lucky, we'll have elected officials who hold them in check. This is an easy call for the governor: We don't need the cops keeping lists of mayflies like Ken Krayeske, nor arresting them when they happen to flit into harm's way. We should be smarter than that here in Connecticut.

I think you people need to rent "Taxi Driver." The comments above -- and those of our Governor -- display a total ignorance of what is necessary to protect a public official.

Your comparison Of Ken to Lee Harvey Oswald shows you are the one who should be monitored because you are obviously unstable.

If the state police were competent they'd have asked around and found out that Ken was no threat at all. He may very well have asked an embarassing question of Rell but if someone needs protection from embarassing questions they should keep their political involvment limited to the asses on the Republican State Central committee.

After seeing Rell's picture at the inauguration event, I must admit in all honesty that my grandmother looked better. She's been deceased for 30 years! Yuk.

Clearly, by the simple use of that cliche the writer is ignorant or racist as the cliche itself states that there's something "wrong" about being Black.

Further, the writer is in either in league with, or has never met the new member of congress from CT's 5th.

So you could've picked Oswald out of a crowd and known just by looking at him he was up to no good?

Amazing.

BTW - "Free Lance Journalist" means either (or both);
unemployed wannabe writer or writer who can't hold a job.

Further - while I agree that every candidate on the ballot should've been included in the debates, it was JDS that blocked the Green Party, not Jodi Rell.

A few weeks ago I posted a question about what happened to the antiwar protestors arrested up in Hartford after the start of the Iraq invasion - the college kids were charged with everything the corrupt hartford police could think up and the equally chauvanistic proscecutors went along with the witch hunt. The papers stopped following the story but this Krayeske story is a repeat - most forget the new haven cops tapping phones in the 70's and let us not forget that the staties have a history of the same thing - a few years ago they were caught tapping the phones in the barracks -- no wonder they think nothing of having a corrupt internal affairs unit.

Hey ACR,

Perhaps if you used your postion as a member Of Republican State Central to Protest just a little during the Rowland administation you could have saved your party alot of embarassment and the citizens of this state hundreds of millions of dollars.

Your penchant for conformity, which you mistake for civility, may well make you a great Republican but it's not a trait that makes for an even good American.

Rell is pretending to be concerned. The word is out, the public is watching this one.

It is not the mainstream media that broke this story, it is bloggers.

So many that have been likewise abused will now come out of the woodwork to tell their stories and to also throw in their support for Ken.

The Connecticut old corrupt guard is going to take a permanent fall.

Try putting Steven G. Erickson in a YouTube.com search engine.

Any hope Rell had of keeping that "list" secret just went out the window by hanging Boyle out to dry...again. I can't wait until they release the "list" and it has pics of Shonu Ghandi, Mary Glassman, Roy Occhiogrosso, Rick Melita, Tom Swan, Chris Caruso, and Ed Meyer.

Rell knew exactly what the score was--Moody didn't want this joker putting any sort of taint on Rell's sweet sixteen party. Imagine the repercussions if people actually found out that 100% of Connecticut's voters didn't cast one for Rell? Her mandate would have vanished! her clout? gone! It really was another brilliant move by moody the great.

I want to know who else is on that list. Any honest person would want to know why they would single out someone like Krayeske.

Only those with a hidden agenda would like the list to be buried. And only a fool would look at the timing of Granny Paranoia's letter as anything less than damage control.

I think The CT Dept of Public Safety aka The Police Have a Gestapo Unit in Middletown at their headquarters.

Maybe they have Major Hochstetter from Hogan's Heroes running it for Connecticut.

Sounds like Ken Krayeske got singled out. I think you bloggers need to demand that list of names be released publicly and immediately.

Maybe if you would have used your position as a left wing mover & shaker the Dems could've run someone more lifelike than Bill Curry and beat him.

Face it - if there were a Curry - Rowland rematch again, John would clean his clock .....again.

This entire "debate," if that's not debasing the word beyond meaning, misses the point that real journalists don't engage in political activism.

If Saint Kenny wants to be a political activist, by all means, be one. If he wants to be a real journalist, then he needs to forego the glory that was Cliff Thornton's sub-10,000 vote performance and his -- in Thornton's words -- "in your face" political activism.

But he cannot be both.

So long as the professionally obnoxious like Kenny, Spazedork and Maura insist on glorifying their Constitutionally protected harassment of candidates they dislike with the term "journalism" this line will be irretrievably blurred -- and they cannot then claim the journalistic privilege when the inevitable occurs.

Anon 9:29: Ken has been hired by many news organizations to be a journalist. It is his trade. Whether or not journalists should or shouldn't engage in activism is another debate entirely.

I'm much more concerned about the fact that a watch list is being maintained, and that blogs were/are being monitored.

Tell that to Ben Franklin!!

Go read what Ben Franklin wrote and published as the EDITOR of his own Newspaper.

Are all Republicans this stupid?

The Courant reports that Ken is a law student and also that he has three previous arrests. I believe that his record will make it hard for him to be admitted as an attorney.

Has anyone ever heard of Geraldo Rivera? Someone can absolutley be an activist and a journalist regardles of what I may think of the guy.

But let's get to this "list" that doesn't exist because the cops just have files and then share the information. Excuse me, but in what form do they share the information? How about on a list? They are all playing word games again!!

What does the fact that the Democrats running Curry have to do with the other FACT that you new dam well the Rowland Administration was robbing this state blind but decided to stay quiet and even help cover it up.

All members of Republican State Central should have also been asked to resign by Jodi Rell when she took office.Without your total conformity and willingness to keep your mouths shut Rowland couldn't have succeeded in his misdeeds.
