Connecticut Politics and Elections: Coverage, Analysis, Maps and Commentary
There's a lot I like about that third option. :)
CTLP has no bias. It's a blog site. All,including the host(s), who participate are obviously biased in some way, but not the same way. That's what makes it interesting.
Didn't Lamont win the senate poll that CTLP had, i think that is a better gauge of the type of people who blog here...moonbats indeed
If you look at the comments posters, there are typically more liberal posters than conservatives. While this is true of Connecticut as well, here it's more pronounced. But this site isn't outrageously biased.
If we're going all meta around here, I'd like to mention that the anonymous commenting "feature" seems to be a net negative to the community here, and I don't see any real benefit to it. It's not like posting under "CGG" or "Genghis" or even "Matt" (my real name) is going to give a stalker or a political opponent all that much to go on.The anonymity is somewhat alienating, and only offers the benefit of allowing some visitors to make disparaging remarks without it accruing to their reputation. People might thing highly of me, bluecoat, brass boy, or whoever, but at least we "know" who we're talking to - even when we don't.Alright, rant from the peanut gallery off :)
The fact that Lamont won a poll here does not mean that the site itself is biased, but it does suggest that the readership here is possibly biased to Lamont. One of the problems with the perception of a bias is that people that tend to visit political Blogs are more in tune to how even the slightest turn of a phrase can create a bias. And they tend to be quick to point these things out.
I like the site, I really do. But lets call it like we see it, this site is EXTREMELY LIBERAL LEANING. And not just the posts, but the articles and GC himself on most issues.I have no alterior motives, I just speak the truth.Still a great site thought, even for moderates like myself!
Anon 442, "GC himself"???A guy who voted for Rell, Kissel and Schlesinger? C'mon now.
I'm much more concerned about quality than viewpoint. At the moment our posters here may shift to the left, but the community is decidedly nonpartisan. As long as people, of all political viewpoints, feel compelled to join in the discussion I'm happy. If people stop talking about if we're biased then I'll worry.
Let's see, you guys ran off your only frequent conservative contributor, why should moderates stay?
If they are coming at you from all sides then you are doing something right.
This site is simply excellent. The extraordinarily well done election maps, the thought-provoking blog topics, and the very capable editorial work are all very top notch.Yes, the blogging comments tilt left. But then again, this is Connecticut and this is a Connecticut blog.It makes no more sense to complain about the content of the comments to this site than it does to complain about the results of last month's elections.
Genghis, it is hard for me to say this site is in the center when you announce that you are keeping some contributors and two of the three of them are liberal.
I think this is as balanced a blog as they come. One of my first reads every morning. Matt, your post has inspired me to finally sign up and post. I agree there seems to be much more civility towards the debate when the author can be identified. I look forward to the new changes GC.
Cheers, GACIV! Welcome to the party.
Since you're asking, you can use some additional Conservative contributors here. Maybe there's someone over at the FIC Blog who'd be interested?
Guys,.....c'mon now. It's a good site, great coverage, very informative. But really,..it's a blog. Please understand the limits of that. This site isn't swaying public opinion, changing elections, or even slightly influencing legislation in anyway whatsoever. It's just a nice thing to have if you live in CT. and are a nerd political junkie.
"This site isn't swaying public opinion, changing elections, or even slightly influencing legislation in anyway whatsoever."As of August 9th, I'd say Joe Lieberman may disagree with you.
Watching this BLOG during the election cycle, I found postings from every viewpoint. I also think the effort put in to try to reflect the interests and opinions of folks across CT is useful. The MAPS are terrific, even when they have some errors. Keep up the good work.
I have to agree with the idea of removing anonymous posting. It does lead to more civility in discussion when you know the names, and know their viewpoint tendencies, and are unable to attack from an anon. POV. Also, If I wanted I could log on here 27 times as anon. and create a false sense of the viewpoints of your average readers. Not that the administrators couldn't figure that out, BUT do they have the time? lol
Left leaning? I'd say so.The pro-Lamont and "Dodd for president" posts say it all.
On any list of things people hate most is "speaking in public". What people think and do in a private voting booth is often completely opposite what they present in public. "Anon" allows us to hear what people really think - most often to "Anon's " detriment- but of value neverless.
So, there have been complaints that this blog is biased to the right?I'm trying to figure out what kind of person would make that accusation ...
This website is biased to the left No question about that!!!!!
