Enfield Marine Killed

A 19-year-old Marine from Enfield was killed in Iraq over the weekend, a family friend confirmed Monday night.

Lance Cpl. Philip Alexander Johnson died Sunday morning with one other Marine as his unit was traveling from Ramadi, family spokesman Ron Jackman said.
...
A 2005 graduate of Enfield High School, Johnson was fulfilling a lifelong dream of becoming a Marine, said those who knew him. He joined the Westover Young Marines when he was 11 and remained with the unit through high school.

Connecticut's other war dead are listed here.

Isn't ironic that as we approach the 5th anniversary of 9/11, that the number of our sons and daughters killed in Iraq approach that of those killed on 9/11?

Turff -

Are you kidding me? Joe WROTE AND INTRODUCED the Iraq War Resolution. He was pushing the war since at least 1990. How does he not bear responsibility?

A brave soldier, fighting and dieing for his country. There is no greater sacrifice one can make.

God bless this Marine. Semper Fi.

Politics aside for this soldier, we are humble servants, fighting a determined enemy. We shall prevail.

I take offense to those who use this issue to further someone's campaign. By blaming Lieberman for this, what you are saying is that the death of this Marine is good news for the Lamont campaign because it fits right into his rhetoric.

Whether you disagree with Joe or the Republicans on the war is up to you. But the reason many of us believe we are in Iraq is to protect the lives of those who live here.

herb-

that should put things in perspective for us all. In five years of fighting a war, we still haven't incurred as many casualities as we did that day in 2001.

for those of you who don't believe we are fighting a war against terror, look again.
