U.S. Senate Endorsement

We have made our U.S. Senate endorsement: Ned Lamont.

How this works: The team members of the site voted on the candidate they supported, and the candidate with more support was endorsed. An endorsement and a dissent were written and posted.

Why we're doing this: Endorsing candidates allows us to express our opinion on the candidates. Since we have such a wide variety of opinion among team members and readers, we also thought it was important to publish a dissent from the endorsement.

SO there is really no reason to vote for Lamont other than the fact that he is not Joe Lieberman and is against the war. Wow, talk about an in-depth endorsement!!! I never thought of that.

It is not safe to assume that U to D switches are for Lamont, and could easily be construed as a protest votes for Joe. And the figure is closer to 6700 from info I have seen. In the context of 800,000 U's a 1% conversion rate in the face of unprecedented national coverage, mega dollars spent on broadcast, and supposed netroots uproar, does not seem overly impressive.

I imagine that that will have a lot to do with which party is in control of the Senate, sots.

Despite your years of political involvement, you have absolutly no idea how those u's are going to vote, you can say what you want, but you don't. And to say that Lieberman doesn't have u's identified and switching is stupid... thats where his support comes from.. a monkey could tell you that. And I don't know what BR is talking about with Lamont's u to d program on his website. I had to search for his voter registration link.

BR- I thought you were going to say that, but that is clearly a GOTV and not a u to d.

"Your participation is a critical component of our campaign's success. Using our Family, Friends and Neighbors tool, you can send a postcard with a personalized message from you to your family, friends and neighbors in Connecticut. Later, follow up with phone calls to your get-out-the-vote list reminding your network to vote for Ned on August 8. It's a time investment of about five minutes yielding a Senator who will truly represent the people of Connecticut." From Lamonts Family, Friend etc.

Random observation:

In checking over the predictions that were made here while about the primary, I noticed a few things:

Of the different predictions, 40% said Turnout would be 30% or greater. All of those are predicting Lamont wins. 20% predicted light turnout. They are all predicting a Lieberman win.

Those predicting a Lamont win are split 50-50 over whether Malloy or DeStefano will win. The same applies to those predicting a Lieberman victory.

Those predicting a Malloy victory are expecting the spread to be 4% or less. Those predicting a DeStefano victory are predicting the spread to be 6% or greater.

Overall, predictions for Lamont outweight predictions for Lieberman 2 to 1. Predictions are equally split on Malloy and DeStefano

Hey Bruce -

I'm curious is your 10:57AM post supposed to be read in the voice of Howard Dean? You were a big Howard Dean guy, no?

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

its official this website is now officially called the following:

Connecticut Liberal Politics
Lamont Blog II
Keith Crane's Amateur Hour
Crane and Rubenstein Show

Hope all you liberal left wingers are happy that you have ruined The Connecticut Democratic

Hmmmm--Seems the anonymous posters are not onboard the Ned Express. While the named posters are all over Ned like a stain on Monica's dress.

So will a vocal self identified group of libs win next Tuesday? Or will a less vocal, but perhaps more numerous, silent majority speak loud and clear????

This is the only blog on the web that gets criticized for being too conservative one day, and too liberal the next. I guess you can't win, but keep fighting the good fight, Genghis et al, and take it as a badge of honor. There are many of us reading who can appreciate and enjoy the posts, even when we don't agree (i.e. "adults").

Disgruntled Rep- I hear what your saying when I write that stuff it is aimed at Keith and Bruce. they have not been nice to anyone who posts on here with a difference of a opinion it is always nasty and sarcastic remarks by both of them. I think they need to allow others that have a differing viewpoint have a say.

I will not post my real name Because I know I would be attacked by those two on a daily basis. i have tried to talk civil with both of them but they do not allow anyone who has a differing opinion and there are a few others who support their attacks on bloggers.

I didnt mean to attack you or Genghis or the others i enjoy the blog I just get so sick of them two and a few others attacking Lieberman So that is why I have to speak out against Lamont and the only way is to attack them in return Because they dont listen.

I'm interested in betting ... I'm just not very good at it ...

I was a Lieberman delegate at the convention - - - very concerned, in spite of my reservations about Lieberman, that Lamont's challenge would hand the seat to the GOP. While I disagreed with Lieberman on the war, I felt there was room for differing opinions on a single issue, even an important one. However, since the convention, I've had the opporunity to reacquaint myself with aspects of Lieberman's record that I'd somehow forgotten, e.g., his attack on First Amendment freedoms in concert with Bill Bennett, his putting his personal interests first in running for VP and Senator at the same time, and his failing to apeak up as the Bush Administration attempts to dismantle the underpinnings of a free society. Now that my memory stands refreshed, I would crawl across broken glass to vote for Ned Lamont on August 8th.

Bruce--

You are too funny...

Someone mentions that this is now the CRANE/Rubenstein site and you say it isn't the RUBENSTEIN/Crane site.. Talk about Freudian slip.... We know you think alot of yourself.

I am working on Joe's campaign.

Your call about Joe's U to D isn't the only call from former (or active) Dem activists who are not helping us, but on a fishing expedition. There is a total information blackout to ALL regarding our U toD program, A/B program, petition drive, polling, campaign stops, GOTV effort, etc.

Why would we confide in someone like you only to have it posted here?? You are not a friend of the campaign and we know that...

We are not as inept as you may think (or hope)we are, all knowing Bruce.

Sure you are. All your information gets out, because several of your people in house are passing information to your opponent.

People just enjoy mocking the campaign as inept, and public evidence surfaces often enough to validate that claim (the "hug" buttons, etc). I wrote to one Lamont worker with a bit of embarrassing LieberNews that I'd received on the DL, and he'd already heard it, and filled in a couple more details.

And I live in California, for christs sake. If I'm getting inside-the-campaign gossip from you guys, you're hardly running a tight ship.

Genghis Conn said...

Agreed. The Lieberman campaign really has been terrible.

Totally inept campaign. It will be used by wikipedia to show what not to do...and most of the stuff they mess up is campaign 101 stuff.

Sorry that I wasn't around yesterday to wish Bruce a happy birthday.

Happy Birthday Bruce, many happy returns.

Really! Its no big secret. Everyone here probably knows how to do some or all of it. You're not writing the book on it or doing it any differently so get over yourself. The question is whether you're doing it and BR says you're not and I said a monkey would. My advice, evidenced from your internal polling, is stop posting here and get to work because you're campaign needs all hands on deck.
