Awkward Moments

From a Bristol Press report on yesterday's Democratic Unity event:
"I am supporting Joe Lieberman," Blumenthal began and then stopped in embarrassment. "I am supporting Ned Lamont as ardently as I supported Joe Lieberman," he added. (Hladky)

Look for more of these sorts of uncomfortable moments in the future. Like this:

[CHRIS DODD is eating in the Senate cafeteria. JOE LIEBERMAN comes up with his tray]

LIEBERMAN: Hi, Chris! Uh. Mind if I sit down?

[A pause. Dodd looks around. No one is nearby]

DODD: [mumbles, doesn't look at Lieberman] Sure, I guess. Have a seat.

LIEBERMAN: [sits, waits expectantly] So how's things?

DODD: Okay. You?

LIEBERMAN: Oh, fine. Never better. [they both look down at their trays]

DODD: ...Yeah. Er... Good.

LIEBERMAN: So.

DODD: ...So. [the pause lengthens]

LIEBERMAN: Um. Nice work on the floor, today.

DODD: Oh, thanks. Thanks. Uh. You, too.

LIEBERMAN: Thanks! I thought Trent Lott looked drunk again, didn't you?

DODD: [pause] Mm.

LIEBERMAN: Boy, I can't wait till we retake the Senate. Can you? It's going to be great. Right?

DODD: [hastily takes a bite of sandwich, indicates that his mouth is full]

LIEBERMAN: [picks at his lunch] These freedom fries are always soggy. Don't you think they're soggy, Chris?

DODD: [forces a laugh] Soggy. Yeah.

LIEBERMAN: ...So...

DODD: ...Right.

LIEBERMAN: Been back home?

DODD: Oh, yeah, I was there last Wednesday, for-- for an event.

LIEBERMAN: With--

DODD: [quickly] Yeah. You know. How it is.

LIEBERMAN: [looks away] Yeah. I know. Look, I better go.

DODD: You don't have to.

LIEBERMAN: No. I should. I, uh, have some paperwork. You know this place. Paperwork. [gets up and hurriedly walks away]

DODD: Geez. [sighs, goes back to eating his lunch]

How can all of you good government people defend Lamont and his handlers for allowing Jesse Jackson to stand behind him the other night? I thought you all wanted criminals out of government. Is this what the Democratic party in CT has become?

Priceless!

I'm curious to see how many events for Lamont Chris Dodd shows up too...Curiously few if I were a betting man.

Genghis, I was not aware you were a playwrite!?! A young Brian Friel perhaps?

Rev Jesse Jackson, Rev Al Sharpton and the liberal left now control the Connecticut Democratic party.

Free health-care, free money, free housing, free transportation for eveyone all paid for by the business and working stiffs of Connecticut.

So those of you who support Lamont have no problem that Jesse Jackson was standing behind him the other night?

I have as much of a problem with Jesse Jackson standing behind Ned Lamont as I do with Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton contributing to Ned's campaign or as I do with Wes Clark asking his supporters to urge Joe Lieberman to give up his self-centered, destructive third party run.

Humorous... I wouldn't want to deal with that lunch room. And for those people with a problem with the Jesse Jackson connection - It's not that Lamont is so great, it's that he isn't Lieberman.

Yeah, and BP Oil, who BTW posted a $7.3 BILLION quarter, indicates prices will go up $.20/gal as a result of them not placing enough anticorrosvies into the pipeline. Let's hear it for big business controlled by the Republicans. Of course, big business won't provide the healthcare, they will make the "working stifs" pay for it or go without.

There are compromises to be made between capitalism and socialism--we've been doing that with social security, medicare, public schools, etc. for decades. It doesn't have to be all or nothing. Health care is the same way: we can make good compromises to fix the current system.

Govt takes the biggest bite out of the oil apple via both direct and indirect taxation of the commodity. And both BP and the State of Alaska are losing millons per day because of the pipeline. No doubt BP will find itself at the wrong end of a lawsuit because of this, demonstrating another way that Capitalism provides both opportunity and redress.

Such a stupid comment, there is no need to respond.

BTW, by closing down the pipeline they may have averted a major environmental disaster. Aren't we in favor of a clean environment?

'Dead with Ned'

Interesting story in Slate on-line (not know as conservative outlet....)

The Lamont victory has assured GOP control of Congress next year.

Yes, Lamont may win in CT. But the national press is portraying this as a swing left for Democrats nationwide. Whereas Democrats once had hopes in states like Montana and Tennessee, now moderate voters will be turned off to the perceived Democratic agenda.

So congratulations Lamont supporters-- you have cut off your nose to spite your face.

Long live the blogs.

Yea Cousin Brucie, I owe you lunch for the JDS/DM prediction. Email me and we will put it together.

Did a different anon just call me a "chump"? LOL.

As an aside, I just saw Senator Lieberman in downtown Waterbury. (I was on my way to the farmer's market to get tomatoes and eggplant.) Please, DeanFan84, do not jump to any conclusions about that, except that our dinner tonight will include tomatoes and eggplant.

ctknows: actually, Castro can't make it. But I did hear that Osama bin Laden is coming in to campaign for Ned. snickering back at ya ....

Gee, what a surprise, Jacob Weisberg who used to work for the New Republic, thinks Joe Lieberman's defeat is a bad thing. Seems like he's simply repeating talking points from his friends who are still there.

anon 1:12 Congratulations. You are right. Mr. Lamont's victory so damages the Democratic party, that Republicans won't even have to campaign for the rest of the year to maintain their majority. You might as well take the next three months off and vacation in Crawford.

At least Gen. JC Christian, Patriot understands how dangerous Jesse Jackson is.

diff anon--Thanks for the comments on my dad, he is one of my favorite people as well.

I will call you Bruce, I was in meetings today- you know some of lawyers need to work. lol

On a different slant, I might challenge Tom Swan to a boxing match since he bashed everyone in my entire city as either slime or evil. I guess Waterbury isn't important to Lamont?

Tom Swan Should be fired as Lamont's Campaign Manager for his unacceptable remarks about Waterbury. Like the rest of the Lamont Liberals including his pals Keith and Peter Crane. They need a lesson in Politics 101 and Attitude 102 Because they fail in both categorys.
