A(nother) Connecticut Party

Strikingly original.
Democratic U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman filed paperwork Monday that will allow him to collect signatures to petition his way onto the November ballot if he loses an August primary.
...
Lieberman also filed papers with the secretary of the state's office Monday to create a new party called Connecticut for Lieberman. (Haigh)

What? Not going for the Working Families Party cross-endorsement? Didn't want to revive A Connecticut Party?

At least his party name is very descriptive.

B-Rube, friend.

You gotta have an affiliation name- if he put "Democrat" in the name, you'd be crying about copyright infringement, if not figuratively, literally.

Strategically, what matters is that the name begins with "C". That puts it above "Democrat" on the ballot. Not as blatantly as "A Connecticut Party" did. (I always thought the answer to "A Connecticut Party" would have been to run on "A Better Connecticut Party", which would have alphabetically superceded the Weicker-Groark powerhouse.)

The order of the parties on the CT ballot has nothing to do with alphabetical order: the Aardvark Lovers party is not first.

Section 9-249a says that the #1 slot goes to the party that got the highest number of votes in the last governor election. This would be the Republicans. Then it goes down in order of governor votes. Alphabetical only helps in the list of minor parties without a governor candidate in the last election, and petitioning candidates. Lieberman is still below R and D candidates, and I don't know if any minor parties ran last time that will run someone again this time.

The name Lieberman chose show it is all about him. He did not have to even choose party name. He will be at least forth on the ballot. No other parties ran candidates in 2002. There will be a Concerned Citizens Candidate for Senate. Alphabetically concerned is before Connecticut.

I'd stand corrected, if I could stand.

I realize now that the Weicker-Groark ticket in 1990 was playing for the #3 slot.

Though Bruce Morrison's positioning didn't save him from nearly destroying the party.

"Connecticut for Lieberman" seems pretty wildly optimistic at this point. I have an alternative suggestion: Joe for Joe. More concise, and more reflective of Lord Lieberman's situation in 2006.
