Open Forum

For all the non-Lamont chatter (which is making us obsolete)!

The Feds have stepped in to run the trash collection agencies which were involved in racketeering and price fixing in the Danbury area.

In a related story, the minor league hockey Danbury Trashers, who have as their logo a mean-looking trash can with a stick, are cancelling their season. The owner, of course, is involved in this whole trashy mess.

In other hockey/refuse news, the Carolina Hurricanes are getting closer to winning the Stanley Cup. Not that anyone is bitter about that. Especially not me. No way.

There's also an interesting article in the New Haven Independent about Hispanic support for DeStefano (or lack thereof), and why it may have cost him the convention.

Lastly, don't forget to go check out/contribute to CT Election 2006, the new Connecticut elections wiki! Go add a candidate from your area, or help us flesh out our knowledge of something. Check out the aboutpage for more info.

What else is happening today?

GC,

You should ignore that post on MLN, it's pretty lame. I think you started your blog a few months before me and I can tell you that there was nothing out there before you jump on the scene (with those maps :-).

You have my total respect.

As for the Trashers, since I'm from Danbury, I can tell you that the people who really lsot out in this are those faithful, drunk, roudy, and proud fans who came out night after night to cheer on their team.

I'm going to post more on this on my Hat City Blog as I'm really upset over everything surrounding this case including the people who turned a blind eye to the shady dealings of Galante and help screw the hard working taxpayer who not only lost their hockey team, but were forced to pay outrageous prices to get their trash removed because Galante owned all the trash companies.

This story is larger than Galante...just follow the monry trail and you'll see.

CT Octane I like your thoughts about DeStefano.I agree he would of won the convention had the delegates knew he was with Blondin But he had the deal with West Hartford(Kevin Sullivan)

Scott Slifka will not attract the Money and supporters that Audrey Blondin would have.At Best DeStefano may win West Hartford in addition to New Haven.

But the bigger places want to keep Litchfield County out of the game It is their loss and on August 8th It will cost DeStefano.

This Garbage Issue has shut down a Race Car team here in Connecticut that competes mostly at Stafford Motor Speedway.Galante owns a race car team and they have impounded the race cars, haulers everything.

There has been rumors about Galante and the mob for years so I am sure there is much more to dig up so to speak.

To the extent that alleged political contributions are illegal, there isn't a way that I can go out and easily search for information about such donations.

However, to the extent that they are properly registered, they will show up in sites like the FEC and CFIS.

Doing a quick search, I find that James Galante from 10 Weldon Woods Road, New Fairfield, CT contributed $1,000 to Brad Carson for Senate, $1,000 to Jim Sullivan for Congress, and $2,000 to Joe Lieberman for President back in 2003-2004.

In 2002, Ms. Roseanne Galante, of the same address, contributed $250 to Raymond Lubus for Probate Judge.

Doing a little more searching on Galante's company, 'AUTOMATED WASTE DISPOSAL', I found a reference to Ciro Viento.

Political MoneyLine shows one contribution from Viento of $1,000 to Lieberman for President. CFIS shows that Viento also contribued $250 to 'Friends of Susan 2006'.

None of the other names that I came up with were listed as publicly making political contributions.

So, while it could be that there are some 'good size political contributions to some well connected State politicians', there isn't much of a trail.

Aldon,

Simple internet searches won't going to do the trick.

Galante was in the trash business. You have to look at this from a local level therefore you have to do some hardcore hard news research (on a local level).

The rabbit hole is deep...you just need to know where to look.

Again, I live in Danbury. I just came back from hanging out with two bar owners...TRUST ME this story is far from over.

That's all I'm saying. I'm keeping my mouth shut until I gather all the info and verify everything but everything will come out in time...

Whoops,

Simple internet searches won't going to do the trick.

I meant to say

Doing simple internet searches isn't going to do the trick.

I'm getting very sleepy...
