Some bits of news...

Robert Farr is criticizing Richard Blumenthal for using assistant attorneys general to ferry him around while his regular driver is out with an injury. Farr is running against Blumenthal.

If I'm ever elected to anything, I'm driving myself.

Gov. Rell is trying to broker a deal with Fort Trumbull residents which would allow them to remain in their homes.

The DeStefano bloggers will be live-blogging the debate between DeStefano and Malloy today.

What else is happening?

CTKnows:

Check out the Constitution as Amended (1970):

Section 1 of article fourth of the constitution is amended to read as follows: A general election for governor, lieutenant-governor, secretary of the state, treasurer, comptroller and attorney general shall be held on the Tuesday after the first Monday of November, 1974, and quadrennially thereafter.

Adopted November 25, 1970.

Just because it was added later, doesn't make it not in the Constitution...

My guess is that there are security reasons why Blumenthal can't drive himself."

Of course!

He can't reach the pedals!

CTKnows - The only difference between the offices that you mentioned and the AG is that the AG was added to the Constitution in 1970. But it was added to the Constitution, not the General Statutes...

The only comment I will make on the driver story (at this time) is that if this story involved a Republican politician the media would be all over it. I can just see the stories now; they would concern the improper and wasteful use of state employees. (In fact, in a "people who live in glass houses"-moment, the AG himself has gone after civil servants who may have taken advantage of public resources.)

BR:

It all comes down to what you view as the proper role of an AG. What you see as "creative and innovative" others would see as an improper and unwise use of a tax payer funded office. The AG is, after all, the GOVERNMENT's lawyer, despite the rhetoric of the last two AGs. As far as the causes you cited, the tobacco settlement was arguably unconstitutional and definitely an unwise partnership with the tobacco industry. On environmental issues, the AG's hypocrisy is limited only by his imagination. One suit he brought recently concerned auto emissions standards. The irony is that the AG is driven over 140 miles a day in a car that has WORSE gas mileage than the rates on which he is suing to increase. (Like how I was able to bring this all to a close with a reference to his car and driver?) Plus, what does does that say about his commitment to reducing green house gas emissions?

Instead of all these lawsuits (No Child Left Behind Comes to mind), perhaps the AG ought to be directing resources DEFENDING the state against lawsuits such as the recent suit against the state concerning the educational cost sharing formula. Billions of our tax dollars are at stake in that litigation. Have you heard a word about his efforts in that area?

I am supporting Malloy Because DeStefano has proven to Litchfield County he can't keep his word and that he did NOT do the right thing when picking his Lt Governor selection.

DeStefano made it a dog and pony show when he could of told Audrey Blondin you are a great candidate But I am going with Scott Slifka.Instead he dragged all of us delegates into believing it was going to be Audrey. If he was truthful maybe I would still be supporting him instead of Malloy.

But DeStefano choses the sneaky way cutting a deal with Kevin Sullivan and West Hartford DTC Chair Maureen Megnan to put their boy Slifka on the ticket.I have an issue with West Hartford Because of a political event I attended in 2005 where Audrey was running for SOTS and we were blown off Because Andy Fleischmann was also running and she(Megnan) chose not to introduce Audrey to the people at the dinner when she was doing introductions.

You may think I am crazy mmmm jodi rell and you are entitled to your opinion. My beef is that there are Many Democrats in Litchfield County who have worked hard for many, many years and yet when it comes to Political Appointments and State Jobs we get no consideration while the people in the Bigger Citys and towns get the jobs and appointments.

I wanted to work at The Legislature I wrote letters and made calls But they kept turning me down saying there was nothing for me.

I am just a hard working person who wants to serve But I just get upset when good people get stomped on.

But thats the game of Politics I guess...
