McCain Leads Poll in 2008 CT Presidential Primary

Well we knew it wouldn't be Bill Frist topping the list, but the support among Independents reveals something about how Connecticut voters are far more conservative than liberal. 61% is strong support. See the detailed results by American Research Group, Inc. here. McCain won the CT 2000 presidential primary 48% to George Bush's 46%. What is interesting in that presidential primary is the total turnout for both parties, Dems 177,301, Republicans 178,985.

McCain has high name recognition, and that's really all this poll can possibly measure.

McCain will get the nomination only if a conservative doesn't emerge from the several conservatives, and the several conservatives split the vote. Mitt Romney and George Allen are definitely viable contenders.

Any discussion of impressive Republicans has to begin with Ike, no?

I'm not sure what definition of "impressive" people are using, but I definitely think Mitt Romney, Governor of Massachusetts, is impressive.

He has an MBA and JD from Harvard, and got his JD "cum laude". He was one of the cofounders of Bain Capital, and before that was CEO of Bain Consulting, and really turned that company around.

Bain Capital has been one of the most successful venture capital firms in the country. It provided early financing for Staples, Dominos, Sealy, Sports Authority, Brookstone and countless other companies.

He became CEO of the Salt Lake City Olympic organization team after the bribery scandal, and turned that organization around. The SLC Olympics went from being a financial disaster to being quite profitable.

He then got elected as a Republican in what is probably the most Democrat-leaning state in the counry (although RI and VT certainly give MA a run for its money in that department). And since he's become governor, he's gotten a balanced budget passed, gotten a form of universal health insurance without raising taxes, and has had to work hard with overwhelming Democrat majorities in both state houses.

So I think I'm impressed with his track record so far.

BR....Is at it again...I will be so glad when DeStefano/Slifka loses to Malloy/Glassman.

The great city of West Hartford will boohoo when Scotty loses and has a BIG L on his record.

Also Maybe it will take the wind out of your sails and people can come on here and have a discussion rather than listen to BR's Constant accusations all the time.

By the way I was with DeStefano But what he pulled on Litchfield County made me switch to Malloy If DeStefano was a man of his word Audrey Blondin would of been his running mate But since he lied for months about that What else has he lied or will lie about as Governor.

But West Hartford and their boy (Kevin Sullivan) and their Town Chair(Maureen Magnan)pushed Slifka right under the Bus.

If DeStefano somehow wins the Primary I will be voting for Jodi Rell.

I agree with Pequod You need to include Rudy Giuliani in any poll around here.I don't think Bill Frist,George Allen or any of the Southern Talent in GOP will play too well here.

McCain leads the poll Because he has been here before as 2000 Presidential Candidate,he has campaigned on behalf of Candidates so he has name recognition in Connecticut.
