O'Connor Doesn't Want to be Rell's Lt. Gov.

This from the Danbury News-Times:
U.S. Attorney Kevin O’Connor has asked not to be on the list of potential Republican candidates for lieutenant governor, according to source close to O’Connor.

The source said O’Connor, a Republican, has asked the campaign of Gov. M. Jodi Rell not to put him on the ticket for the 2006 election.

O’Connor, who has prosecuted a string of public corruption cases in the state, has been one of a handful of Republicans consistently mentioned to be in the running for the number two spot on the Republican ticket. (Lucas)

Huh. I wonder why?

The story also mentions the sorts of GOP Lt. Gov. possibilities we've been kicking around here for months, although I don't think Ward is a serious choice.

I have a feeling we'll find out early on the day of the convention--and it'll be someone we've never heard of.

If I were a Republican delegate to the State Convention in New Britain, I would be asking for a commitment from Alan Schlesinger and Paul Streitz that they will be the Party nominee through the election.

George Gallo has sent signals that essentially will put Schleisinger and Steitz's integrity on the line, should Lamont defeat Lieberman.

And folks, remember this.

Alan Schlesinger backed out of a potential primary against Mark Nielsen at the behest of John Rowland.

GOP Chairman Chris DePino dangled Schlesinger a non-paid party legal counsel post.

Wonder what will buy off Schlesinger this time, in the case that he wins the nomination and gets begged off should Ned Lamont win?

TS...

My suspicions about the GOP's intentions were confirmed by George Gallo's comments about the Senate piece in Roll Call last week.

Schlesinger has as much personality and charisma as a brick wall.

There will be great theatre tonight at the 1st District Republican Convention tonight in West Hartford.

Elmwood Community Center, New Britain Avenue, 7 PM.

I am sensing a number of Republican Delegates will vote for the "carpetbagging" Miriam Masullo of New Canaan as their candidate to run against John Larson.

Scott MacLean, who has been campaining for the seat for a year, will have his hands full.

Masullo has told my sources that she does not plan to move to the 1st District and continue to live in New Canaan (75 miles from Hartford).

Its a shame if the delegates choose her again. She was the party nominee in 2002, but was soundly defeated by Phil Steele in a Primary.

Masullo says she has $200K to put into the race.

Makes one wonder if she didn't spend money in 2002 and in her quioxic run against Senator Dodd in 2004, why is this year any different?

CTN wil tape the event for later broadcast.
