Interview, Q&A with Dan Malloy Set for Friday

I am pleased to announce that I will be posting an interview with Stamford mayor and Democratic candidate for governor Dan Malloy this Friday around 11am, after which the mayor will be responding to your questions in a forum here on the blog.

The mayor will be available, I have been told, between 11am and noon, which is a small window. Therefore, if you have a question you want to ask of the mayor but won't be around to post it, you can email it to me and I will post it for you with your username attached. My email is jeenaone(at)gmail(dot)com.

Some straightforward ground rules: Be civil. No name calling, no vicious snark, nothing offensive. I'll be moderating, and I'll remove anything that's inappropriate. However, I trust that most people who frequent this blog will ask thoughtful, insightful questions. All questions pertinent to Connecticut poltics and the Malloy campaign in particular are certainly fair game.

Second, in the interest of fair play, campaign staffers (especially those from other campaigns) should probably refrain from asking questions. Agreed?

It's my hope that we'll be able to do something like this for all the candidates for governor and for any other candidate who is interested.

The Dean folks hate Malloy? He's sounding better and better.

What specific initiatives does he propose to ensure that all Connecticut residents have access to health insurance? How will he enhance the HUSKY program?

What will he propose to fix the flaws in the CT spending cap? (eg, its incentives to continue cutting spending even when the economy recovers)?

Genghis has asked campaign staffers not to ask questions and I respect the request. Genghis has also asked everyone to "Be civil. No name calling, no vicious snark, nothing offensive."

In light of this, I want to add my two cents about the DLC discussion. For those of you who are not regular readers here, you should know that I was very active in the Dean campaign. I live in Stamford and consider myself good friends with Mayor Malloy. Hopefully, he still considers me a good friend even though I took a position as BlogMaster for the DeStefano campaign.

Anonymous is a bit off base. First off, if he is supporting or not supporting people because of who other people support, then he is part of the problem. We need to support people based on their record and their vision. That is why I support Mayor DeStefano.

Deanfan84 brings up the issue of the DLC. I think it is fair to look at the DLC in terms of record and vision. The record of the DLC is one of vicious attacks on other Democrats and I don't believe that is good for the party. The vision of the DLC is particularly corporatist and further to the right than the vision of Democrats in Connecticut.

So yes, I was a Dean supporter, am now a DeStefano staffer and I like Mayor Malloy. Mayor Malloy would be a good governor. He would be an even better governor if he moved away from the DLC and with even more work, he could be almost as good a governor as Mayor DeStefano.

Genghis,

So when will you become Malloy's official blogmaster, you kiss up to him enough already.

Please ask Mr. Malloy what he plans to do about economic development, intra-state tax allocation, as well as education-dollar-sharing between wealthy and less affluent communities.
